Far-Fetched is an American 2D animated adventure and fantasy series in development by Ashley Nichols and Dave Capdevielle. Nichols and Capdevielle both worked on the Hazbin Hotel pilot, which released in October 2019.[4][2][a]

Premise[edit]

The series focuses on a young woman, who after releasing a chaotic dog in the world, joins a group of "musical misfits" who fight to survive in a place where science is pitted again "the horrific supernatural."[5][1]

Characters[edit]

Protagonists[edit]

  • Rue (voiced by Nola Klop[b]) loves horror films and pastels, but her life is full when a mysterious animal enters her life, turning her life "upside down."[6] She joins her friends to play keyboard for a band, Sesamoid, trying to control her emotions and the new beast in her home.
  • Kira (voiced by Jazmine Luevanos[c]) is a dog with hair, wings, and is purple, which seems harmless, but may be anything but harmless.[6]
  • Quinn (voiced by J. Michael Tatum[d]) is a gothic boy who leads Sesamoid as its drummer, putting his friends in peril, often with "snide remarks."[6]
  • Piper (voiced by Dani Chambers[e]) holds together those within Sesamoid, with an energetic attitude, helping support her friends while she can, plays a six-string guitar, and wears a witch hat.[6]
  • Griff (voiced by Jacob Takanashi[f]) is an airhead, lead singer of Sesamoid, and friend to "creatures both big & small" even though he is prone to accidents.[6]
  • Warren (voiced by Jonah Scott[g]) is a bassist for Sesamoid and is not afraid to let his friends aware if they are "horribly misguided."[6]

Villains[edit]

  • Blair (voiced by Lauren Landa[h]) is one of the show's villains, a villainess to be precise.[7]
  • Drain (voiced by Michael A. Zekas[i]) is another of the show's villains.[7]

Production and release[edit]

The show, originally named "Hell Puppy" was announced with the name "Far-Fetched" in October 2020.[8]

On February 13, 2021, a proof of concept pilot titled "Night Of The Cute Feast" was released on the YouTube channel of Ashley Nichols, one of the series creators.[9] It currently has over 194,000 views on YouTube. Nola Klop and Jazmine Luevanos voiced Rue and Kira respectfully, later to return in the same roles in the main series.[10]

On March 19, 2021, it was announced that those working on the show were in the "middle of production on a second, much longer short" to meet all those in Sesamoid, and then moving to a Pilot for the series.[11]

Max Monroy and KK are character designers for the show, as are Sara "Serval" Fisher and Cecilia "Calis" Goncalves.[3][12][j] Furthermore, Kennedy Philips is the sound designer, Caytlin Vilbrandt designed the show's logo,[k] and three people are storyboarders.[3][l]

On February 22, 2022, a teaser for the upcoming pilot of Far Fetched was released.[1] There has been work on the series since then.

Reception[edit]

Pre-Release[edit]

Before the release of the pilot episode, Tito W. James of comicon.com said he was impressed by the production values, calling them "impressive," stated similarities to Helluva Boss and Murder Drones and noted that the series appears to have "multiple openly-queer characters". He also described the series as an example of how indie animation is "more vibrant" and pushes envelopes more than usual network television shows.[1]
