Notability of Travis Parrott[edit]

A tag has been placed on Travis Parrott requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Woops, sorry, I posted on your page, I should've written here. I'll copy/paste what I said here. I just wanted to know why you wanted to delete the Travis Parrott article that I wrote. If thats the case, then why not delete Tim Tebows page? He is the quarterback for the University of Florida. He does not compete in the NFL yet he has a big page. Or how about Matt Grothe, QB for the University of South Florida. He competes at the college level as well.

I just want to make sure because I see a ton of pages that have been up for quite some time. Yet the first big article that I wrote, which took about 5 hours for Parrott, and its going for deletion. I hope you can understand where im coming from here. I just want to know more information so I can not have my articles deleted, thank you.

Further update[edit]

Hi. I now see that another editor had nominated it for deletion. It will probably wind up being deleted because it doesn't meet the notability standard. If you want to fight it, your best argument is that he is an award-winning college athlete so he's notable. But his college awards don't look to be that significant, so I don't think it will be a successful argument.

I will leave alone the other articles that you've created, even though they are close calls, but there's a good chance that another editor will pick up on it, and then there's nothing much I can do about it.

Please familiarize yourself with the notability standard of athletes and of people of general. I don't want you to go through this again. You've obviously worked hard on the articles, and it is most frustrating to have your hard work go in the garbage. Here are some links: Wikipedia:Notability (people), Wikipedia:Notability (sports).

Satellite High School[edit]

First of all, let me thank you for your contributions to this article. Hard to get quality updates to high schools.

Names are generally erased from all articles that are not about the person themself (sorry about the grammar!). Each article needs to focus on the subject of the article. So except for "notables", "someone" won a relay award giving a high school tops in the state. The "someone" goes unmentioned because it has no long term effect on the school (or other article) itself. This is true throughout Wikipedia. Sometimes this is not possible, but I don't want to mention exceptions at this point.

This is why the teachers were eliminated. Every school has them. the article should be unique (another reason for eliminating a list of teachers). Bailey's accomplishment was so notable, that it is probably not possible to ignore him, a rare exception to the rule. Probably should have a small article. But the quote is too much and detracts, not adds, to the SB article. It makes Bailey (and Clinton) more important than SBHS. In other words, SBHS becomes a derivative accomplishment of Bailey and Clinton. Without them, the school is nothing! That is the implication. And Clinton is just too big for the article. Had Clinton visited, it might become impossible to not mention him!

But the quote would go into Bailey's article most definitely. And the SBHS article would link to that bio, so the info doesn't have to get lost.

Suggestion: start a stub article for Bailey.

The teachers (sorry) are toast! :) We do list current (and past) principals just for the record.

Google testing[edit]

Hello; I just thought I'd mention this here, since it isn't particularly pertinent to the AfD. Our first line of defense when testing for notability is indeed Google, although one always needs to take Google results with a grain of salt, since they're heavily biased in favor of people gaining prominence in the Internet era. What I myself do is view the last page of results, as that gives a true indication of the total unique hits, and I generally scan through the first hundred results. Newspaper or magazine articles will almost always turn up in that stretch, if they exist, as well as any books on the subject, which come out as hits to a relevant Amazon.com link. I also always use Advanced Search; a lot of people would use "Travis" + "Parrott", which would return a ton of irrelevant links, where "Travis Parrott" is more accurate, and "Travis Parrott" + "baseball" more accurate yet.
