"Taking one's life" is not a euphemism[edit]

Please stop changing instances of this expression or its equivalents under the theory that it is a euphemism. You seem to be confused about what euphemisms are: not all figures of speech are euphemisms. Euphemisms are expressions intended to avoid the perceived offense or negative connotations of a word or phrase by substituting something less forceful or offensive, such as "passed away" or "gone to sleep in the arms of Jesus" in the place of "died"—but note, not every word or phrase meaning that someone has died is a euphemism! Nor is every word or phrase referring to suicide.

There is nothing even slightly euphemistic about "taking one's life"; it's merely one of several equivalent expressions, including the one you substituted—"killing one's self", or "committed suicide", which is also technically a figure of speech, but not a euphemism; arguably "died by suicide" used as an alternative to the latter is actually a euphemism, since it is used to avoid the perceived stigma of the word "committed"—but it is expressly permitted by the cited policy. The fact that several formulations are mentioned does not mean that every other phrase referring to the same act is a euphemism!

Please consider carefully before substituting text on similar grounds—there are countless instances of expressions and figures of speech in English that are perfectly clear and not euphemistic. Treating them all as though they were banned substitutions for a more limited set of phrases, without regard for this, impoverishes the language and does a disservice to our readers. Please note that Sayers herself used the phrase. Also, it specifically referred to suicide. In Sayers' works and other works of the period, "killed himself" could refer to death by accident or misadventure e.g. drinking from the wrong medicine bottle or reckless driving. Burgundian carnival moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Burgundian carnival, is not suitable as written to remain published. While it appears to be notable, it needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. There are large sections which are wholly uncited. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. I did this rather than removing the uncited material in the article, which I felt would be more disruptive. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask on my talk page.
