Fight of Century[edit]

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for helping me to improve the Fight of the Century article with your edits. Here are some tips on some of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines:

Wikipedia generally prefers secondary sources over primary ones, particularly for certain types of material. A source like this one is far preferable to a youtube video of a boxing match, because websites with content that is user-generated can be problematic, and this includes YouTube. While there are some instances in which YouTube may be used, it is best to avoid that as a source, particularly when the user of the YT account in question is unknown.

Just so you know, you don't have to place consecutive citations of the same source in the same paragraph. If a given source supports multiple consecutive passages, one citation of it at the end of the entire text is sufficient.

And when you do need to cite a source multiple times in an article (as when they are in separate paragraphs or are separated by citations of other sources), you don't have to write the entire publication info each time. You can just use the ref name tag, which makes this unnecessary.

Most importantly, when including a direct quote like "gripped the nation, but also split it down the middle. If you were rooting for Ali you were black liberal or young...", it is necessary that you attribute the quote to the speaker. I reviewed the documentary Ali - Frazier I, and I could not find this quote, so I removed it from the article.

Lastly, a minor point, but only the first word and proper nouns are capitalized in headings, as indicated by WP:SECTIONHEAD.

If you ever have any other questions about editing, or need help regarding the site's policies, just let me know by leaving a message for me in a new section at the bottom of my talk page. Thanks. :-) Nightscream (talk) 05:19, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. In your prior series of edits, you did label the citation "Thriller in Manilla", but the url you included was this one, which leads to Ali - Frazier I, rather than Thriller in Manilla. I've restored the passage, with the proper attribution and citation. Thanks again. :-) Nightscream (talk) 07:12, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Lawrence, I reverted this edit of yours because you did not include a source with the assertion you added to the passage. Please remember most material added to articles, especially claims like this, must be accompanied by sources. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 04:48, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For your tireless and substantial improvement of the Thrilla in Manila article, including the addition of copious material and your vigilance over the cited sources. Nightscream (talk) 20:48, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

May 2013[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Gtwfan52. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Eddie Futch, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. The YouTube link is dead. If it wasn't, it would be a copyright violation. Edit it was citing is too POV to be included without a proper citation Gtwfan52 (talk) 06:14, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:A punishing right hand by Ali.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:A punishing right hand by Ali.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:05, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Right by Ali[edit]

It came up under the following google search: https://www.google.com/search?q=joe+frazier+non+copyright+protected+photos&safe=off&client=safari&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=keMOUuSKPOTW2QW31YGABg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAA&biw=768&bih=928 It appears on many pages including broadcast networks' sites without a photo credit, and is a grayscale photo, but I wanted to check further. That's all I have for now. Thanks.

Does the following mean that copyright must appear on image? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:PD-Pre1978

LawrenceJayM (talk) 03:21, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If there's no information about who created the image or when, we can't use it. The "pre-1978" rule only means that publication prior to 1978 must have a copyright notice in order to be copyrighted; if publications after that did not, it doesn't change anything. --Carnildo (talk) 06:30, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Talkback[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:A punishing right hand by Ali.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ww2censor (talk) 19:44, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
