Chris Messina[edit]

Good job! I created subsections for the different works because it's easier to edit them that way in the future. It also is good for the table of contents.

There's a further thing you could do to fix the references. There are two date fields, "date" and "accessdate". Date is the date of the source if it has one. Accessdate is the date you (the person adding the ref) accessed the source, like yesterday or today. It looks like you put the date of the source as accessdate for the sources, which, of course, is wrong. It'd be great if you could fix that.

One more thing if you are willing. Most tables are now sortable on all the columns except the notes column. That way, for example, one could sort the year column either oldest to most recent or vice-versa. That's the stylistic preference here, although many articles don't have it. If you don't feel like it, of course, you don't have to.

Otherwise, I'm very impressed, particularly with all the references in support of each entry. Would that more experienced editors sourced their material so nicely.

As always, any questions, give me a holler. Regards.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:18, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the input. And the kudos. I'll make a point to make the changes you suggest - good opportunity to practice figuring it all out. Thank you for the welcome links as well. I'll make a point to review and take note of procedures, tips, etc. No need to respond. Miggseye (talk) 23:41, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This ("deleted reference to IMDB as its been suggested to not cite IMDB as a source... Even though informally its used to verify filmographies. Will continue to delete unnecessary citations") is a very funny edit summary. It's amusing because it's true and because I don't think anyone would ever say it in an edit summary.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:50, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

LOL... Just telling it like it is I guess.
When you get around to it consider the linkname "Shoes books". Evidently we use Shoes series and Shoes novels and the book titles all mention Shoes in the plural.
Do you know what tools are necessary, on the other side (e.g. Noel Streatfield), to check for incoming links in absence of 'hidden message noting link from another article'? --P64 (talk) 18:44, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

RE: your second point first, I do not know... I just read in the manual of style that it's the responsibility of the editor linking to a section in another article to place a hidden message calling attention to it at the page/section it's pointing to.I gather it is to alert another editor of the link so that it doesn't get removed by future edits, thus ruining the link. I don't know if there is a way for you to check for other incoming links to sections.
RE: your first point. I understand your point that the correct way to refer to the books may be Shoes Novels, Shoes Series, Shoes Books, i.e. Shoes, plural. But in the context of the movie they are referred to as the "Shoe Books". In my opinion it wouldn't make sense, in a Chris Messina or a You've Got Mail article, to refer to them any other way than how they were referred to in the movie... i.e. fans of the movie or Messina would know them as "The Shoe Books"... Just my two cents. FYI... It's a lovely scene where Kathleen comes to terms with her defeat and the loss of her bookstore. The scene dialogue goes:
Woman shopper: Do you have......the "shoe" books?
Salesperson: Who's the author?
Woman shopper: I don't know. My friend said my daughter has to read the "shoe" books, so here I am.
Kathleen: Noel Streatfeild. Noel Streatfeild wrote Ballet Shoes and Skating Shoes... and Theatre Shoes...... and Dancing Shoes and... I'd start with Ballet Shoes. It's my favorite. Although Skating Shoes is completely wonderful. But it's out of print.
Salesperson: Streatfeild. How do you spell that?
Kathleen: S-T-R-E-A-T-F-E-I-L-D.
Woman shopper: Thank you. Miggseye (talk) 19:34, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
