Hello, Nomadtales. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:John Hinde ABC.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Nomadtales/Hinde. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 15:22, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for helping out on the suburb pages for Port Moresby - I'm in Perth and using a 1996 street directory I managed to order, so if there's any errors or issues in the suburb names in the template and list, feel free to correct them as necessary. Orderinchaos 06:22, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Nomadtales. It appears that you copied and pasted Hunter Valley floods of 1955 to 1955 Hunter Valley floods. Please do not move articles by copying and pasting them because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself using the move link at the top of the page, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. WikiProject Melanesia, updating TPI Wikipedia and Wiktionary[edit]

For the past month or so I've been working with the Tok Pisin Wikipedia and Wiktionary, looking into how it can be resurrected from its current moribund state.  I proposed to "Wantok" that the WikiProject Melanesia group consider forming a group, an ad hoc editorial board if you will, to talk about and perhaps resolve considerations such as the target audience, type of editorial content (for example, should articles be focused on PNG/Oceania/Pacific Rim?), a bilingual or strictly monolingual Wikipedia, getting some sysops and administrators approved so the two Wikis pages and page layouts can be restructured, how the TPI pages should look, resolving techniclal problems (with the Infobox templates, for example), and other similar issues.

Obviously you have had immediate experience with PNG and its peoples and places; your suggestions and comments toward the revitalization of the two TPI Wikis will certainly be quite valuable.

Wantok set up a Tok Pisin subpage for general discussions and comments about the project, and I set up two subpages to that subpage for discussions specific to the TPI Wikipedia and the TPI Wiktionary.  Wantok, Aliasd, and myself have started some discussion threads — I hope you'll join in.

Here's the interlinks:  to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Melanesia/Tok Pisin general discussion subpage,  to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Melanesia/Tok Pisin/Wikipedia Wikipedia-specific subpage,  and to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Melanesia/Tok Pisin/Wiktionary Wiktionary-specific subpage.

Thanks, and very best regards,

single login[edit]

Heya, just letting you know that I've created new accounts on Tok Pisin Wikipedia and Wiktionary with username Wantok (and won't be using the old Mattandrews accounts any more). Partly for simplicity/consistency but mainly as preparation for the upcoming single login for Wikimedia. You might want to register your most preferred user name on other Wikimedia projects, just in case, to avoid conflicts later on... Wantok (toktok) 02:00, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

North Coast line[edit]

Nice work with the route map, although you named it Main North line, (proably missed if you cut and pasted it!) so I've changed it to North Coast Line. Regards, The Fulch 06:10, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers. Yah missed the obvious heading. Doh. Nomadtales 06:33, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think this page was to be created in userspace, unfortunately it was in the article mainspace. I have moved it to User:Nomadtales/Main South Line. You will need to fix up your links to this page. Cheers, Mattinbgn\ talk 01:00, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Happy to help where I can. I'm not an administrator so I can't delete them. I have tagged the redirect at Nomadtales/Main South Line as WP:CSD#R2 but you will need to tag the moved page as per WP:CSD#U1 as it is now a user sub page.. In hindsight it may have been better to speak to you first before moving as it would have meant one less page to delete! Cheers, Mattinbgn\ talk 01:47, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can use the template {{db-user}} to tag the page if you wish. -- Mattinbgn\ talk 01:49, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With List of Districts and LLGs of Papua New Guinea, that is in the article mainspace and is not a user subpage (a page that has a title User:....) so the {{db-user}} tag can't be used. I am not sure why you wish to delete it, but if you let me know I can help find the right deletion criteria or you can have a look here - WP:DELETE. In the meantime, I have reverted the tag. Cheers, Mattinbgn\ talk 02:04, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Argg I am having a brain dead momment. I have a user sub page, which I was working on, but I forgot that I had redirected it to that page. It was the sub page of course I want to delete. Thanks for cleaning up after me .. again. Nomadtales 02:25, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Illegible font[edit]

This is a reply to your question about the illegibility of fonts on the route diagram templates. I had an identical problem using Camino. I fixed it by setting inserting this into my user style:

body {
    font-size:7.85pt;
}
This made the font big enough to be smooth, but small enough to avoid causing gaps to appear in the line (usually). Maybe it's time we thought about bringing this to the template itself.--Max Talk (+) 07:39, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trans-Mongolian Railway[edit]

Hi, please do not create single-purpose templates. The purpose of templates is as a tool for content to be re-used in several articles. Templates like {{Trans-Mongolian Railway}}, suitable only for a single article, are therefore submitted for deletion on sight (after copying their contents to the article, of course). References also belong into the article where everybody can see them, and not hidden in the "noinclude" section of a template.

Please also be careful with place names, and use the transcription according to the Wikipedia naming conventions instead of the spelling found in some book. Singlehandedly renaming articles eg. from Darkhan (city) to Darkhan, Mongolia also isn't a very good idea. You are obviously not familiar with the issues related to place names in Mongolia, so you should discuss such changes first with the editors who are. The problem here is that most Mongolian names are shared by several places (in this case eg. Darkhan, Khentii, also in Mongolia), so you're just introducing unnecessary ambiguity. --Latebird 06:54, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Latebird, thank you for your concern. Sorry to be pedantic but the Trans-Mongolian template is actually transincluded on two pages, but I take your point. I can see that templates are "supposed" not to be single use devices, but why not? It saves filling up an article with rows and rows of information. It is not like wikipedia can't handle it either. And it is not just me who thinks so either - and these are just for the Route Diagram template.

As to the correct naming standard for Mongolian names, sorry for my ignorance, but before changing I couldn't find anything specific at the naming convention page. Perhaps a formal naming convention can be included here. Usually the correct method is:

If disambiguation is needed this can be done

  • X, Y (currently the most used method)
  • X (Y)
  • X (city)

where Y is a higher level entity, e.g. a province or the country.

Using "X, Y" is a little bit like saying "X (city in Y)".

Hence why I used "cityname, Mongolia" for the specific articles, as it is preferred. Nomadtales 07:37, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed the second use of that specific template after writing the above. On the other hand, I don't quite understand why this information needs to be repeated there either (the structure of the trans-siberian article is rather chaotic anyway). I'm not able to recite all the arguments against single-use templates, but I know that they get deleted routinely. Those people using them will notice that after a while. The key problem with place names is ambiguity. While the form you chose may be "most used", it was ambiguous in all the Mongolian examples that you renamed. I know this can be be difficult to tell when you're not familiar with a region, which is why I recommended asking the local experts first. Btw.: Those track diagrams as such are very nice and useful, so I'm glad we have them! --Latebird 09:33, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Railway lines in New South Wales[edit]

Geobox 2[edit]

Hello, this message is sent to you because you've shown some interest in the Geobox templates in past. There is now a new version (aka Geobox 2) which supersedes all older Geoboxes (aka Geobox 1). The major difference is there are no feature specific templates (Settlement, River, Mountain range etc.) but just one master template which can handle all type of data. There are a couple of new features and many new fields making the template much more versatile so now it can be used for virtually any geography related feature without the need to create a specific template.

The switch to Geoboxes 2.0 is highly recommended as the new template has a much more effective code, which renders faster than the old one (with much smaller pre-expand size, it can be one third to one fourth of the pre-expand size of Geoboxes 1). To convert aa page from Geobox 1 to Geobox 2, there are two ways:

  • By changing the template header:
    {{Geobox Settlement
    becomes
    {{Geobox|Settlement
    Although some field names have been changed in order to be unified, the old names are accepted too. For any settlement Geobox use {{Geobox|Settlement and set the settlement type (city, borough, town, village) in category field. Calling e.g. {{Geobox|City will work as well but it's not the recommended way (from technical reasons).
  • By a semi-automated tool which reorders the field names in the Geobox 2 style and also renames the few changed field names.

There are several unresolved issues at the Geobox talk page, please add your comments and of course any other ideas you might come with as well as bug reports. – Caroig (talk) 09:21, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Choibalsan[edit]

You have renamed Choibalsan (city) to Choibalsan. You are sure it is better name? Choibalsan first of all is person, communist dictator for decades (Mongolian Stalin). Bogomolov.PL 10:09, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is still a geographic location, whatever your political opinion. Nomadtales 10:11, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am talking about comfort for the WP user. The most well known is Choibalsan man, not city. Second, there are 4 Choibalsans in WP, only one is man, the rest - geography entries, one of them - the city. And I have no political reasons - the man is first (Washington etc.), the city is second, third...

And it is other one - in Mongolia is lot of localities with the same names. In Dornod province there are two Choibalsans: one city, an other one - district and settlement its center. Choibalsan (city) is not in Choibalsan district - that is why we decided note in article name (city) or (sum)=district. The same way like other geography articles (Altai) Bogomolov.PL 12:15, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The way to do this would be to place the district article at Choibalsan District or Choibalsan District, Mongolia. We have similar situations in PNG and this works fine. aliasd·U·T 12:19, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was done, articles Choibalsan (sum), Dornod, Choibalsan airport, Choibalsan (city) were created, as it was with Altai (city), Altai, Govi-Altai, Altai, Bayan-Ölgii etc. The problem was that Altai (city) and Altai, Govi-Altai are in the same province, but they are not the same settlement. If it is city (there are about 20 cities in Mongolia) it is noted (city). Bogomolov.PL 04:53, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
