A tag has been placed on The Official Disney Channel Wiki Podcast requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Ironholds 22:53, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The podcast does not fulfill the notability guidelines shown at WP:WEB. Ideally the article subject should have been mentioned in several notable publications/locations in a non-trivial way (i.e an article about them is OK, but an article they feature in for one sentence is not). Ironholds 22:58, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not remove the speedy deletion template at the top of the page. The best idea would to look at WP:WEB and try and edit the page so that it fulfills those criteria. Ironholds 23:00, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has notability guidelines; rules about what makes something important enough for a page. The notability guidelines for podcasts, websites and so on are at WP:WEB, and for a piece of webcontent like your podcast to be considered important enough for a page, it must:

  • Have one an award, or:
  • Have been mentioned or written about in an important or notable publication (so new york times is ok, some blog a friend runs is not). Ironholds 23:03, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the advice; I normally archive once a month. Ironholds 23:03, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All podcasts are on the internet, heh. Itunes is not a sign of notability; anyone and everyone can post on Itunes (I believe Wikipedia's podcast is there, for example). You need to find something from neutral sources (so, for example, not from something you created) that are about the podcast if you want to show that it is notable and worth keeping. Ironholds 23:07, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well you can, but again, you'd need to show that the Disney Channel Wiki is important by using neutral, established sources. Ironholds 23:08, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral and established sources would be things like newspapers, or important websites (CNN, the bbc website, so on) which aren't related to the web content itself. So the Disney Channel website, for example, would not be acceptable because it is biased. Ironholds 23:11, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not unless you can find neutral sources, i'm afraid. You're still very welcome to help contribute to Wikipedia in other ways, however. Ironholds 23:15, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
An article on wikipedia has to be about something notable. Notability for webcontent such as podcasts is established (well, one of the ways) by it being mentioned in notable publications (news sites, newspapers, important websites, so on). Neutral just means "websites not related to the podcast". Ironholds 23:18, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid so, but if you can find the notable sources we talked about then you're welcome to do so at a later date. As I said, you're still welcome to contribute to wikipedia in other ways.Ironholds 23:21, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure, it isn't really my area of expertise. I'm sure if you ask out at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disney they have something you could help with. Ironholds 23:24, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if you can do that, i'm afraid! But there's probably a lot of stuff I don't know, heh. Ironholds 23:27, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
