Your edits to various articles relating to authors[edit]

Rather than chase you around the article talkpages I have decided to note my concerns here. You say you are an old account that had been away? I would comment that you seem to have forgotten some of the practices of WP; cited content (and content generally) is not removed upon an editors opinion of its worth - concerns are brought up on the talkpage and discussed (with reference to the appropriate policy or policies), or various templates are applied to the article denoting concerns, or processes are engaged to resolve these matters. Should you continue to remove content according to your personal interpretation of policy and guideline you are likely to be considered as disrupting the project. I suggest that you refamiliarise yourself with the appropriate guidelines before continuing in your editing. LessHeard vanU (talk) 22:40, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you LessHeard, I have good clarity of the rules. On one page I made changes others had suggested should be made. On another I corrected similar issues. Publishers and authors seem to think this site exists for their promotion benefits. I know, and you know, it does not. Entries should be encyclopedic. Lists of interviews and such are nice boosts for author egos but have no place here. Go look at some of the nicely done pages and you won't see these junk entries. Established authors don't need to feather their cap or preen. Patrick Rothfuss is the worst of them. Synthfin (talk) 22:57, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The pages I edited:

Patrick Rothfuss - Others have noted the page seemed to have been written by the author and was in need of serious changes. The guy's only written one book. He is possibly not even noteworthy and possibly a candidate for deletion. Lately his unethical tactics have been made public. The guy writes his own hype and we shouldn't let him do it on Wikipedia too. If you review the history of his page, you'll see the page was made days after his book came out and already was making proclamations.

Joe Abercrombie - The author of three books with a fourth coming out. I'm not sure of noteworthiness but didn't edit on this basis. The interviews have no place and that is true for almost all other author entries, so there should not be an exception. I made another small correction. These add no value and detracted from the page.

Nancy Yi Fan - The author page is a serious mess with things straight from the author or her publisher. I edited the page to put in standard format with biography, bibliography, external links, etc. This is the standard form for author pages. Before I could even finish my work, the page was reverted to the original mess.

If you're really concerned about these authors, take them to WP:AFD. Rothfuss seems to have an adequate claim to notability in that he has won two awards of note; Joe Abercrombie does seem more dubious. Yi Fan has an article in PW, which pretty much clears notability. Abercrombie also has had starred reviews in PW and been nominated for several awards, including two Hugos, so his notability is also clearly established. I agree that if there are real concerns over the notability of Abercrombie or Rothfuss, they should be taken to AFD.--Werthead (talk) 21:48, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. I was not able to verify the Rothfuss claim for the Hubbard award and there are some questions coming out about the validity of the Quill. Rothfuss has only one book and even if he writes a few more, he seems totally non-noteworthy. Synthfin (talk) 03:57, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks WLU for editing the Fan page. I was trying to make similar edits to put it in standard form. For the Rothfuss and Abercrombie page, mostly what I was trying to do was cleanup as people said needed to be done. The speedy reverts pissed me off big time on all 3 counts. There was no need to do that when a page had people saying it needed cleaning up. The Fan page was an even bigger mess. Synthfin (talk) 04:19, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
