Hamilton, Ontario[edit]

I have put over 60 edits into this article and branched many of the long sections off into sub articles. I am starting from the top and working my way down with including cited sources for the statements. The plan is to make sourced summaries for each section in accordance with the Wikiproject Cities template. After the main article is well sourced, I was hoping to take the sourced information and include it in the sub articles. Next step would be to improve the subs. At this time, I feel that I am making a lot of arbitrary decisions with this article and I would like to get a broader perspective on the goals I have set. I seek constructive criticism on this plan and suggestions on how we may be able to reach Feature Article status. Alan.ca 14:51, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To begin with: Start populating the history, geography and Law & Government sections. They are currently too small. I'll comment more on the same as soon as I get my internet connection to stabalise. =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:55, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

History

  • Needs at least six paragraphs in summary form. Needs to mention key events that shaped the city. History needs to be written in a companded manner (ie the number of events in the 19th century should be more or less equal to less than events in the last two decades. In short, the chronology of historical events should be exponential rather than linear.)
  • Wikify long dates February 13th of 1833 --> February 13, 1833. See WP:DATE

Geography

  • Altitude, climate, average temperatures, precipitation, extreme temperatures, geology (what soil?), vegetation, city neighbourhoods (approximate layout of the city)
  • Geo cordinates

Economy

  • Move this section so that it immediately follows the Geography.
  • Remove subheadings
  • 'Foreign' should not be used; it should be substituted by something like 'not born in Canada'
  • What about languages spoken?
  • Move the infobox to the right
  • Residents of Hamilton are called?
  • blue collar rush hour -- 6:30am, 3:30pm and 11:30pm -- not essential

  • Economic history could be added

  • Include the jurisdiction. Who administers the city?
  • Relation & contribution of the city wrt to provincial government and national government.
