Qualifying competition?[edit]

I'd say that "qualifying competition" is the same as "men's singles qualifying". That what is now named as "Qualifying competition" is preferably the third round IMO. Or does it mean there is no competition on the first two rounds? I don't think so. Yep, it is the decisive round, but dubbing that the 'competition' is quite weird. 82.141.125.149 (talk) 09:41, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree the choice of words is a bit odd. There have been occurrences in past grand slam articles where "Qualifying Round" have been used instead. Since the third round is the round where you actually qualify, "qualifying round" seems appropriate, as would "third round" be even though more generic. The phrase "qualifying competition" is commonly used to refer to the whole event of qualifying. So my vote would be to change it to "Qualifying Round".Xerxes53 (talk) 10:22, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, sort of the three rounds are all 'qualifying' rounds. Though the third is the final qualifying round. From the first round you qualify to the second round, from the second to third, and from the third to main draw. How about final round? 82.141.125.149 (talk) 09:03, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"Final Round" sounds good. That is usually how it is referred to in the media, i.e. final round of qualifying. Xerxes53 (talk) 10:00, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have now changed qualifying competition to final round, in all four qualifying articles. Xerxes53 (talk) 16:51, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Too bad these 2011 Wimbledon qualification seems the only ones with anything other than that Qualifying competition. 82.141.66.232 (talk) 21:33, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
