No, it is not "needed". We have only done it up to this point because the referees' associations were listed by sources. I think you're missing the point. We only started adding the officials' home associations because that's what the sources did at the time. Now that they don't do that any more, we don't need to either. Anyway, we're getting nowhere between the two of us. If I may interject here, I think that considering a different perspective may help. I personally do not have a stake in whether the information should be included or not. What we should be concerned about is what notable information the readers may be interested to know. Do we think that readers are interested to know the federation of each referee? They may have noticed that it was there years past, but did the readers find that information helpful? The omission of the data from modern sources would suggest that those outlets don't find the information particularly relevant, so should we? It's possible, but then consider how much volunteer effort must go into hunting down that information. If it is easy information to find, but not commonly used, there isn't much harm in adding it. If it requires significant effort to find the information just to be consistent for consistency sake, you have to ask if the amount of juice is worth the squeeze. If there is more information readily available on other topics, your volunteer time may be better spent updating those topics to benefit the readers. -2pou (talk) 17:58, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
