Article name[edit]

Can this page be renamed to Brussels-North_railway_station to be in line with Brussels-Central_railway_station and Brussels-South_railway_station ? Wakari07 (talk) 23:01, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From a quick look around the internet (not from personal experience, though), I don't get the impression that Brussels-North Station is the generally accepted way the station is referred to in English. I'm guessing it is more common to omit the hyphen. I think the article should ideally have the French and/or Dutch name as its title, though I understand that naming convention could get complicated. -Eric talk 20:13, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Even on the NMBS/SNCB website you will find both forms : with [1] and without [2] them. The official timetable book (50 MB) [3] and the displays on the platforms ([4]) however have the hyphens. Since there is no official English form, I would suggest to keep the hyphens. Since the spoken form "Brussels-North" is often heard, I would suggest to keep the English name as title. Both the Dutch and the French form have the hyphen. Is there no better argument than frequency ? What's the evidence for frequency ? "Googling" results in an almost-tie (16.800 vs. 16.900). I know about the Dutch and French forms, but it just isn't done that way in English in general. The WP manual of style wouldn't cover something like this, I'm sure, it being a special case. It's just one of those things that doesn't translate well directly. I can't speak for every anglophone city, but in mine, we just call the stations North Station and South Station. Do you happen to live in Boston ? In Brussels, "North Station" would be the English form of the official name for the MIVB/STIB bus/tram/metro station (Gare du Nord/Noordstation). Also, a conductor on Brussels-bound international trains will use "Brussels-North" in his English announcement, with or without hyphen ;-) Wakari07 (talk) 06:14, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can we not borrow liberally from the French version of this page?[edit]

I am an Irish expat and I live in Brussels, though I still haven't become fluent in French or Dutch. And I was a little surprised that the English version of this page was so sparse on detail (in particular about the De Lijn buses that terminate here, because the De Lijn website is truly hellish to navigate) when the French page is so full of information.
