Possible inclusion in CWHL page?[edit]

The depth and breadth of this work is absolutely stunning. This perspective – how the CWHL and its demise impacted the women’s game on a global level – is foundational to understanding women’s ice hockey today and is a crucial encyclopedic element that has been largely overlooked on Wikipedia. I hope you will consider adding it in full to the existing CWHL article, rather than as a side article that is unlikely to receive as many page hits. You're absolutely right in that the collapse of the CWHL and the impact its had is absolutely critical in understanding the state of women's hockey today, but I don't think it would be appropriate to include it in full in the existing CWHL article. Mainly because it's a matter of space - in order to really have a comprehensive overview of the collapse, how it came about and how it's still affecting things (it hasn't even been two years yet, so there were surely more updates that need to made in the future), you'd have to have a section so large that it would dwarf the rest of the CWHL page (the draft's page length (in bytes) is already twice the size of the CWHL's page length). This wouldn't just be cumbersome to read, it would also overshadow the rest of the league's history and accomplishments. The context of the collapse and its aftermath is also important if you want a comprehensive overview, but hard to fit into the existing CWHL page (it'd be a bit weird to have a CWHL page that spends time talking about things that aren't the CWHL). I'd argue it would also break with other conventions on events in hockey history on Wikipedia - events like the NHL lockouts and the NHL-WHA merger all have a quick and broad overview on related pages and then the more detailed, more comprehensive page of the event on its own (and it's the same for things like individual seasons and trophies and what not). I'd also argue that that lumping it in with the existing CWHL page could hurt it's ability to get page hits, since I'd assume more people are more likely to start off with a search for information on the collapse than for information on the league's history as a whole, and since the collapse had such a massive impact on hockey, there'd be plenty of chances to add interwiki links on other pages, which would drive traffic. I guess in the end, even if the draft's initial review was declined for not enough content (which I'd be willing to contest), I'm going to keep working on it and keep expanding it (since there's still a lot more that can be added) and if someone wants to add the content to the pre-existing CWHL page, they can, but I'm not sure it's ultimately the best idea. I realize this is an old discussion, but I agree that this works best as a dedicated article, and is very valuable as such. I put in a bit of work to update it to reflect recent developments, especially the launch of the PWHL. Other justin (talk) 02:04, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
