The result of this discussion was to merge Temple Beth Israel (Phoenix) into Congregation Beth Israel (Scottsdale, Arizona); and provide a redirect at Temple Beth Israel (Phoenix) to Congregation Beth Israel (Scottsdale, Arizona). Rangasyd (talk) 09:05, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Alansohn, Another Believer, Jayjg, and Historicist: You have been pinged because you've been a major contributors to either or both of the articles here. I propose merging Temple Beth Israel (Phoenix) into Congregation Beth Israel (Scottsdale, Arizona). These two articles are about the current synagogue / congregation of the Congregation Beth Israel (Scottsdale, Arizona); and the congregation's former synagogue building and now heritage center = Temple Beth Israel (Phoenix). At present, the content in the Phoenix article is essentially very similar to the content that currently relates to the former synagogue, in that article. There is not sufficient interest in the heritage center to justify its own article. Any redirects for the former article on the heritage center could be redirected to that section of article that deals with the heritage center. Rangasyd (talk) 05:11, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is scope to incorporate both the heritage-listed building and the current congregation within the one article. There is nothing new about this approach and can be seen in these articles on Michigan synagogues, for example, at Temple Beth El (Detroit), where two former synagogues, listed on the NRHP, plus the current synagogue, are incorporated into one article; and Temple Beth Sholom (Marquette, Michigan) and Temple Israel (West Bloomfield, Michigan), both where the current and former synagogues, listed on the NRHP, are incorporated into one article. And there are many more examples. There is just not enough content/importance to justify two articles about the one congregation, with one former synagogue building listed on the NRHP.
