This page should be merged with (or better still replace much of) the article on East Ham —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.31.111.163 (talkcontribs)

That's a view, but then it would be the only place in Greater London without a previous authority page. The East Ham page is about the district of East Ham in the London Borough of Newham; that area, for instance does not include the districts of Beckton and Little Ilford - or should they be merged too? It is usual to have separate articles for districts and (former) local government districts. East Ham and West Ham county boroughs covered a much bigger area than the individual settlements today. MRSCTalk 16:51, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's been agreed on the Talk:East Ham page, '163' was merely concerned that it took s/he a while to find this page. I added a link in the para on the merger. Kbthompson 17:07, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Public Records

I am not at all happy about the idea of the public records being 'returned to the originating districts'. Essex record office is the place for records of areas in Essex. The current local authority, [Newham], has all but destroyed the local history library and has nothing but contempt for historical fact- especially where it conflicts with the local politicians attempt to portray the area as part of the East End and exaggerate local problems in their pursuit of grant funding. The public records are unlikely to be made accessible if returned and are most likely to be destroyed as 'irrelevant to modern times' —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.201.98.210 (talkcontribs) 12:53, 1 August 2007
