  • "In 2011, Down Beat chose" perhaps you could just introduce Down Beat along the lines of "jazz magazine" or "American magazine" for us non-experts to determine the significance.

  • I know MOSNUM isn't obligatory for GAN but "than 80 as a " could be "than eighty as a " just to shut me up.

  • "Taborn grew up" I think there'd be no ambiguity if you opted to not repeat his surname here and just opted for "He grew up..."

I think so. The source quotes Taborn: " I sat with my friend in front of the house's system speaker, and it was so loud and visceral and brutal. Then I went home and put on the Cecil album, and all of a sudden it sounded like Kind Of Blue to me! It was more manageable in terms of being able to hear detail and listen to content."   • Any reason to pipelink DIW? The sentence would be more accessible if we knew that it was released by DIW Records.

  • Is there a suitable link for "sideman"? It's a common term I understand in this context, but outside it's a little different (to me, at least).
Hmm. Sideman begins with "A sideman is a professional musician who is hired to perform or record with a group of which he or she is not a regular member." That's not my understanding of how it's always used in the jazz world, where the person could be a regular member. Whole thing: "He's the rare musician who takes the approach, 'What can I do with this instrument?' rather than playing through its book of techniques.
