Duffel bags[edit]

Were duffel bags ever made from duffel?

My dictionary says that they are cylindrical canvas drawstring bags of twentieth century American origin, with the name deriving from the American use of duffel to mean sporting or camping equipment.

Does anybody have evidence of bags that were actually made from duffel to disprove this?

Incidentally, Joe Pesci's minorpiece '8 Heads in a Duffel Bag' brought it to the attention of us Brits that in America the word can now also refer to a holdall, which we were told you called a carryall. Surely a significant proportion of the British audience went to see this film just to see how eight heads would fit in a cylindrical canvas drawstring bag.

Your question is answered in the Duffel bag and Duffle coat articles. Jaho (talk) 12:54, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Statistics[edit]

There's something completely wrong with the statistics in this article. According to the article: On January 1, 2006 Duffel had a total population of 16,019,254. The total area is 228.71 km² which gives a population density of 70,042 inhabitants per km². The total population can't be true, since the entire country hasn't even got that many people and the population density makes me wonder how high people are stacked. The figures in the infobox seem to make more sense, and I've copied them to the article text without further verification. Jaho (talk) 21:26, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
