Added name of the sculpture.

Edgware Road development plan[edit]

For historical sources, this is not a good reference, as it does not state its sources. It is probably ok on the street's context, demographics and planned future. Kbthompson (talk) 23:36, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

'Culture' section[edit]

This needs rethinking. I don't understand why the ethnic makeup of the area is under 'culture' (in the sense of cinema etc) - sure it should be under a heading like 'population' or 'communities'? Also, the use of 'ethnic culture' is here totally meaningless. 'Ethnic' can refer to any ethnicity and it is only in white-dominant contexts that it becomes a lazy way of designating people of colour. As wikipedia addresses all contexts, I think we should use more specific language. The dominant communities on the Edgware Road are Arabs. Finally, terms like 'distinctive [...] communities' are similarly problematic and exoticising. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.232.56.62 (talk) 14:23, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to rewrite this bit, and add references if needed. You could perhaps split the content into a "demographics" section to describe the ethnicity of the area, and a "commerce" section to discuss the various restaurants etc. I agree, "ethnic" is an unsatisfactory and almost meaningless word in this usage.Cnbrb (talk) 15:04, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not certain at all about the statement that the southern stretch of road “is known to Londoners by nicknames such as Little Cairo,[1][2] Little Beirut[3][dead link] and, especially near Camden, Little Cyprus.[4][5]” It may have been known as such, it may be even be known by some today, but is it really common? I’m not sure I have ever heard these terms in use - anecdotal I know, but I think it needs consideration, especially as the inclusion of “near Camden” as supporting evidence is spurious. Edgware Road isn’t in Camden, doesn’t pass through, or even close to it. Neither of the linked references appear to actually support the claim either; the Observer article mentions Little Cyprus, but doesn’t say where it is (it also mentions Camden, but that is further grist to the idea that “Little Cyprus” is in Camden Town, not on the Edgware Road), and the second book (using a Google Books search) makes no mention of Edgware Road (although it does offer stats of Cypriot immigration to the UK).
