Blog with some information[edit]

  • "The Power of One". The Belleville Telescope. 2010-09-08. Retrieved 2015-07-02.{{cite web}}: CS1 maint: date and year (link)

The above blog page is not suitable as a source for this article. But because Johnson is a common name some of the information contained within it may be useful for searching for reliable sources. For example this unreliable source states that:

Johnson grew up in New York, and later Missouri. She moved to Republic County in 1873 with her first husband, John Camp, and they settled at Courtland where their daughter, Mary Walsh Camp was born.

That marriage ended in divorce, and she married George Johnson of White Rock, located in extreme northwest Republic County, in 1881.

...

The Johnsons eventually built a house in Republic. Elizabeth continued to live there until the early 1920s when her grandson, George, persuaded her to move to California. She died in 1924.

Disagree Please explain why you state that it is unacceptable. The Belleville Telescope is one of the oldest newspapers in the United States. While its circulation is much smaller than many papers, that does not make the information incorrect.--Paul McDonald (talk) 13:32, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
See policy WP:SOURCE, and the guideline WP:RS. This is a blog web page that starts "Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 09/08/2010 - 10:05am". The blog page does not reference any sources within it. The blog is not cited by any academic journal or any other reliable secondary source. So no only was it uploaded by an unknown person, there is no way to check that it is accurate and there is no known reliable secondary source that confirms that it is accurate. So it is not a reliable source. -- PBS (talk) 09:26, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Anonymous sources are long accepted in peer-reviewed journalism. The Belleville Telescope is a long-standing newspaper and is widely accepted as a reliable source. If the information was not reliable, they would remove it. This isn't just some blog someplace, and RS does not require the name of the person who wrote the article. The name of the newspaper should suffice.--Paul McDonald (talk) 14:59, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
