Split?[edit]

A lot of these could have their own articles on the history of the term, description, and important office-holders. Is the comparison of Ethiopian titles with European from Harold G. Marcus, The Life and Times of Menelik II: Ethiopia 1844-1913, 1975 (Lawrenceville: Red Sea Press, 1995)? internal links, translations, transliterations[edit]

Coming to this page from Iyasu V, one of the "On this day…" articles linked on the Main Page, I found the many references to different titles very confusing. I've added non-section links (<span id=___></span>) to some of the paragraphs, and linked uses of those titles in other parts of the page to them. I haven't done it completely, but it may help other readers who, like me, are not even passingly familiar with these terms.

The word hoy appears a number of times, as well as in Iyasu V, but without explanation. From the translations given for Emebet Hoy, Woizero Hoy, and Woizerit Hoy it clearly means "great", so I have added the translation "Great Prince" for Abeto-hoy. I have not normalized the capitalization and punctuation to Abeto Hoy because I don't know Amharic or Ge'ez and can't tell if this difference reflects a difference in the original written forms (which mostly are not given in the article.

But I have changed Qegnazmach to Kenyazmach, evidently the same word transliterated two different ways: "gna" in French and Italian is pronounced the same as "nya" in English. The final -mach, used in many titles here and evidently meaning "commander", was also spelled -match in a couple of occurrences of the title otherwise written Dejazmach; I've normalized those as well. --Thnidu (talk) 04:23, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Regional Offices[edit]

Bahr Negus "office", north of the Mereb, should not be discussed as a subsidiary "office" of the Ethiopian monarchy as it was rarely held for a long-period by "appointees". In other words, should this be discussed as "part of" the monarchy or as a separate entity? Merhawie (talk) 22:34, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why not create a separate article on Eritrean titles since this article seems to promote Ethiopian titles. Also I don't agree with the presumption by many wiki editors that Eritrea = Ethiopia in every aspect.
