Use of owner's first name[edit]

I just clicked through to the article from the main page, and thought that the "cuisine" section read rather oddly. I think this is partly because it refers to the owner by his first name. I was about to change this to use his surname as is convention on Wikipedia (see MOS:SURNAME), but then realised that his first name might have been used because of the name of the deli. Cordless Larry is correct; the name Gaby was used because that's the name of the place. Note also that this is a family business in which other members of the family also work. In such circumstances, it seems best to use the personal name so that it is clear who is meant. The usage is also consistent with the source which also keeps it clear, '“I’ve been here since 1964,” explains Gaby, ... Gaby insists on ordering me a plate of his falafel ... We don't generally adopt the style of sources over and above our own style guidelines, though. I just think it sounds odd for Wikipedia's voice to refer to someone by their first name. While there's the argument about other members of the family sharing the surname, they're not actually mentioned in our article, so the potential for confusion doesn't seem to be there. Guidelines are not rigid rules as commonsense applies and exceptions are expected. The usage seems appropriate in this case for the reasons stated. See also The Economist. Andrew D. (talk) 11:45, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree that we shouldn't follow rules of style just for the sake of it. My point is simply that that section currently reads very oddly. Perhaps that's just me and others will disagree, but it doesn't sound encyclopedic to my mind. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:50, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Corbyn's campaign[edit]

I found it difficult to find the reference that said Corbyn was campaigning to "save" the deli. There are two refs that say he enjoys eating there, but that was all. The Rambling Man (talk) 14:40, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a couple of quotes:

Daniel Boffey (15 August 2015), "Jeremy Corbyn's world", The Observer, Corbyn helped save the deli from closure when its landlord, Lord Salisbury, suggested he would not renew its lease.
James Hanning (12 September 2015), "Jeremy Corbyn: Visiting the Labour leader's favourite restaurant - Gaby's Deli", The Independent, The place is also used by actors bulking up before going on stage, and by a variety of celebrities who joined Corbyn in successfully lobbying to save the restaurant after its landlord, Lord Salisbury, was on the verge of not renewing the lease four years ago.
