Australian chart number for Kill The DJ

Not convinced the Australian peak for this is correct. I don't get the sheet which lists positions #51 to #100 (not made available to the general public) but the citation for the position leads to an unofficial chart. - Re-removed these. The chart linked to is verifiably not the official Australian chart - for the instance of 'Kill The DJ', this is the official chart (http://australian-charts.com/weekchart.asp?cat=s&year=2012&date=20120819) whilst this is the chart from which the supposed chart peak was pulled (http://australian-charts.com/aus-charts_weekly_20120815.asp). Neither Kill The DJ nor Oh Love have hit the Top 50 in Australia, and positions #51-#100 are not publicly released. Actually positions 51 to 100 on the Australian Singles Chart are made public on the ARIA Report which is available at the Pandora Trove website. It is usually a couple of weeks before they are archived though.QuintusPetillius (talk) 16:10, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Proposing merging Tune In, Tokyo... to this article

The single Tune In, Tokyo... had been nominated for deletion, but no consensus was reached. It was suggested, however, that a merge discussion be started on a relevant talkpage like this one, which is what I am putting forward here. Personally, I wanted a merge since there is a lack of reliable coverage for the single, but we can first see what the others think about this. Hopefully we can reached a clear consensus. Thank you.   • There is literally nothing to merge. Green Day discography#Live albums already has Tune In, Tokyo... listed along with its release details and chart activity.     "No consensus" ≠ "Keep". If the consensus had been to keep the article, the AfD would have been closed as "keep". But it wasn't; it was closed as "no consensus". Even the closing admin said: "I agree, and so does nearly everyone else, that it should not have a stand-alone article". I would echo all of those comments. The result was no consensus, but it wouldn't even matter if it were an outright keep, merging/redirecting can still be discussed regardless and if a consensus is established in favor of it that is what will happen. Now if we could avoid the same back-and-forth sniping between the same two users that turned the AFD into a confused mess we might be able to form a consensus here, so I would respectfully ask that you both stop commenting here. You've both expressed yourselves and whoever closes this will be be aware of your opinion of the matter, there is little to be gained by continuing this bickering.     No. The point is that none of these minor releases (Tune In Tokyo, Bowling Bowling, Live Tracks, etc.) have received any significant coverage in reliable secondary sources. Lumping them all together in one article would not solve this problem. --IllaZilla (talk) 23:03, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Choices for chart positions

Using "Hot 100 Airplay" chart positions for 1994-1997 singles

I want to open a discussion about using the "Hot 100 Airplay" positions in the "Hot 100 singles" chart like it was. The capital letters near the songs explains everything about the position of the song and it highlights the popularity of the song among the newer Green Day songs. 2pac Is Alive (talk) 19:18, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

It's really a a bad practice to mix charts in one column. The Hot 100, Hot 100 Airplay, Hot 100 Sales, and Bubbling Under Hot 100 are four distinct charts with distinct rules. Positions shouldn't get mixed together in one column. If you think one of the subcharts is important enough to list its positions, then replace a column with it (once you get a consensus that one of the other columns is less important).—Kww(talk) 19:54, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

False chart positions

There are some editors on Wikipedia that seem to believe that the Belgian "Ultratip" chart is an extension of the Belgian "Ultratop" chart. It is not. The Ultratip chart is based upon airplay and the Ultratop chart is based on sales. They are two completely different charts and it is explained on the official website here: http://www.ultratop.be/en/ultratop.asp. What some editors have been doing is incorrectly adding the Ultraip chart position on top of 50 - as if it is an extension of the Ultratop 50, which it is not.QuintusPetillius (talk) 11:31, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Bubbling Under Charts and Hot 100 Airplay should not be in the Hot 100 column

Wikipedia:Record charts#Billboard charts states that: "On singles discography tables, do not add 100 to the corresponding Bubbling Under peak if the song never entered the Hot 100. Doing so would violate WP:SYNTH by creating information not directly supported by the source (i.e. the notion that the Bubbling Under chart is an extension to the main chart and the position). It should be indicated as an uncharted song with a footnote to indicate the Bubbling Under peak. In the song's article, just indicate it as a Bubbling Under peak, so long as it is verifiable. If an artist has had Bubbling Under entries but no songs that entered the Hot 100 proper, or has had multiple Bubbling Under entries, discography tables may use a separate "Bubbling Under" column to save on footnotes".QuintusPetillius (talk) 09:20, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

I Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely and Shoplifter are not singles

It is obvious that these aren't singles at all. Just because they have a cover or a vinyl release doesn't mean that they are singles. Green Day never officially released them as singles, maybe promotional singles. See songs like "Up with the Birds" or "Powerless". 2pac Is Alive (talk) 10:38, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

Problems

It seems that there are several issues on this page that are causing disputes, but all editors seem to be doing is reverting each other continuously without anyone getting anywhere. To try and curb this, I'm inviting said editors to this section so that we can move the discussions here and eventually establish some consensus, so that the page ends up becoming more stable. Here's what's causing a fuss:

  • 1: Whether or not "The Forgotten" is a single.
  • 2: Whether or not "Shoplifter" and "Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely" are singles, as they are based on slightly unclear and undescriptive sources.
  • 3: The other appearances section containing singles, and other original sounds recorded for actual Green Day albums, being included here when they have appeared various film soundtracks and video games. This seems rather unneccessary, and and I think it violates WP:INDISCRIMINATE: after all, if we listed every time that "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" had appeared in some terrible rom-com, the discography would be at least a gigabyte long. But I'll see what you think.

Of course, anyone is welcome to contribute ways or solutions to these issues if they want to. To keep things organised, if you are listing a response to one of the above then begin your reply with the number you are referring to, e.g. *1: I think that... OK finally got around to typing this.

  • 1. The Forgotten was released as an official single for the Twilight soundtrack. I think most people remove it because they think it was a ¡Tré! single, which it wasnt. Green Day announced a while back, along with Twilight, That it would be the soundtracks lead single.
  • 2. Shoplifter has been here forever with no complaints. The one I saw recently was "Surely not Shoplifter" so they removed it based on opinion. And as for the other we had an agreement a while back to keep this one but people have started removing it again. This was a collaboration from Green Day and Husker Du. It was an "official released Split single". One side was the original version and the other Green Days version from "Warning". But either way both are sourced and the source is reliable and many other sources on this page come from this site as well.
  • This one I dont see any complaints about. It never had a war to remove and only was reverted a while back. Various other ones have this section and its not that long. So it doesnt make the page to huge and not every discography "has to have one". I dont think that this is a problem and it really does make the article more complete. The only thing missing is demos if we want to add them.

So this is what I think and what do you say about adding demos. Its not to many and wouldnt be a problem with sources and what not. I also think we should add Cigarettes and Valentines to the studio albums page and put "Unreleased" I added it once but one person didnt like it and kept reverting it.

Cigarettes and Valentines was never released, so it's not a studio album (despite what the infobox says). Simple. Also, WP:DISCOGSTYLE states in the "What should not be included" section that "Non-original or previously-released material used on soundtracks, trailers, commercials, or any other compilation releases" should not be used, which describes all of the songs in this section except for the covers (which can go into the "Other appearances" section) – the crucial phrase is Non-original or previously-released. So if it appeared on the soundtrack before the album it appeared on was released: if not, then it shouldn't. As for demos, I'm not sure whether they're necessary, as artists usually record multiple collections of possible tracks called "demos" before they are professionally recorded: it's only the ones that have names assigned to them which end up being considered "official". No official Green Day related sources state "The Forgotten" is a single, the song does not have an artwork either. Some sources stating that "The Forgotten" is a single may be getting their info from wikipedia or assuming it was released as a single because it had a music video and charted well in Japan (This was through digital downloads). "Nuclear Family" and "Stay The Night" were listed in some places as being a single shortly after their music video releases as well. If you were to go to an online digital music store, such as iTunes, Oh Love, Kill The DJ, Let Yourself Go and Stray Heart will appear by themselves as well as on an album, "The Forgotten" won't, it will only appear on Tre! and The Twilight Soundtrack. A song can't really be released as a single from just one album and not another, "21 Guns" was released as a single from 21st Century Breakdown and The Transformers 2 soundtrack to promote both of them. If the song is released as a single and the song appears on Tre! and the Twilight soundtrack, it is a single from both of them, because it is promoting both of them, it can't only be one. I agree with you on every point except for the idea that a single must a single from every album it has appeared on: just because a record label allows a song to be licensed on a film soundtrack doesn't mean that it is automatically a single from it. Again, I use my example of "Gonna Make You Sweat": the "Album" column would read Gonna Make You Sweat, The Super soundtrack, Sister Act soundtrack, Man of the House soundtrack, Space Jam soundtrack... and so on. Apart from the fact that it looks impractical, it was not actually released as a single from any of those albums specifically ("Life is a Highway" by Rascal Flatts was specifically recorded for the soundtrack to Cars and thus released as a single from it, even though it appears on their album Me and My Gang). So As for all of these I see no complaints about the above other 2 singles only "The forgotten". I just remember seeing that it was announced as a single and a music video was released alongside it. As for the song reference this isnt those other articles. Its the green day one. It doesnt have to be on both discographies for it to work. Its just cool to see what songs have been on the "soundtrack albums", as many other ones do, and not just makes an appearance. And it was agreed to keep a while back as well. As for the unreleased album it "was" a studio album. It was to be the follow up to Warning. It is now an unreleased Studio album. It was just a thought to see if others would like to add it as there isnt a single mention of it on this page and it does exist after all. I found a some demos (less than 10) that all have official names and releases from earlier times. Ive seen quite a few others that have these. If is this is to be a "complete" discography then I think that we should add all official releases. So your thoughts. BlackDragon 18:06, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

If you want to add it, then by all means do so, with citations of course. One problem with adding minor album releases is that there may be many different ones in different countries, and therefore in discography articles unimportant releases are often omitted. So add it and then see if someone else objects (they might think it's clutter and remove it). It was included before and someone removed it here. A few people have mentioned the album in the discussion above so there may be enough people who think it is significant enough to warrant inclusion. I personally see no problem with its inclusion.
