Culture[edit]

Apart from adding pix, took the liberty of moving the Culture section above Transport. I believe that readers might wish to know what is special about an area, before thinking about actually going there :) Tarquin Binary 19:18, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Polish Community[edit]

Anyone got anything to say about this? Hammersmith has for many years now had a large Polish community - it's focal points being the Posk Centre, and the wall of advertisments outside King's Newsagents (Now moved inside the shop due to complaints from the local secondary school Latymer)... where/when did this originate from? Crabsoneyes 15:24, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The section on culture and entertainment should mention POSK. In particular, its theatre and library. I believe the library has one of the largest collections of Polish books outside Poland (?) Also, there are Polish restaurants, a bookshop, Jazz Club etc. 62.254.68.36 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:34, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Dove?[edit]

The Dove needs its own article. The description in the this article makes it out to be a very historic place. --208.65.188.23 (talk) 00:32, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Be good to get a citation to see if it really is the oldest surviving riverside pub. The Prospect of Whitby is listed here as the oldest riverside pub and other sources claim it to be the oldest surviving. Interestingly The Dove don't seem to even claim it on their own website Garymonk (talk) 18:58, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Town, city & county question[edit]

Hi

I'm foreigner, I live in Hammersmith and since I came to UK I've got always the same problem - what should I write "Town:", "City:" and "County:". Usually I put Hammersmith & London, respectively, but, well, I would like to know how to fill those fields.

Before you start to complain that this is not forum: When I tried to google "hammersmith city town county" wikipedia lands on first place. I assume that there's more people from around the world sometimes confused with british administrive system.

This nifty infotable on the right only provide information about something called "Ceremonial County".

Any chance for help?

Notable People[edit]

James May appears twice in the notable people section.

Not any more he don't. Thanks for the heads up. You could have removed the duplicate yourself, no probs. SovalValtos (talk) 13:48, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Daniel Radcliffe is missing from the notable people section — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:62:4754:3500:D0B0:9F55:1B74:F5F (talk) 08:22, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I've added refs for all the "notables", and some images of the genuinely famous ones. That, and sorting them into groups by century does make one thing obvious (see for yourself):

  • 17th: 3
  • 18th: 5
  • 19th: 8
  • 20th: 37

Yes, you spotted it: WP:RECENTISM. I think the list should be restricted to people who are genuinely famous, not just got-three-refs-so-they-must-be-notable minor forgettables. Perhaps we could therefore weed the 20th Century list? And rename the section to "Famous people"? Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:07, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Education, anyone?[edit]

For a relatively popular article with nice pictures and a competitive notables section, why is it not more informative about its diverse community or its educational establishments? Over to you.--Po Mieczu (talk) 16:08, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
