Name[edit]

The direct quotes from OGN are "...apparently named for Eugene W. Hilgard..." and after the explanation of the familial relationship, the ag survey and the birthname, it says "The cousins should probably share the distinction." (emphasis mine) Although I don't like the construction "according to so-and-so" in favor of simply citing the info without attribution, I'd be OK with that construction here, since the McArthurs appear to be hedging. Hmm. I guess I'd lean towards "named for A or B". My source is just two pages of appendix, uncited (while the book itself has cites). It is pretty clear though- "Hilgard is Henry Vilard's original last name".. though the lawyers would note the phrase doesn't directly state it is named after Henry, just that his name happens to be the same. tedder (talk) 11:11, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
