I am the subject of this article, which contains two minor and one major erroneous statements:

I was Ambassador to Guatemala 2002-2005 (not 2003) The statement about my military service should be edited to read: From 1967-1969 he was on active duty in the United States Navy Reserve. (i.e. not the Marine Corps). I did not support Governor Romney for President. The facts are that, in 2008, I was a delegate for Hillary Clinton to the convention of the Washington State Democratic Party. After Clinton withdrew, I supported then Senator Obama with financial donations. In 2012, I supported the re-election of President Obama from the outset.

Can someone please make these edits for me. Thank you vry much. John Hamilton 71.217.58.131 (talk) 22:15, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Corrections to article about me[edit]

Thank you, editors, for considering my requests for changes and making two of them. I now realize (having been reminded by the Dept of State) that the dates of my service in Guatemala reflect not when I arrived at post (December 2002) but when I presented my credentials to the Government of Guatemala, which was January 2003. Thus, you had this correct and should probably change it back to 2003-2005. Sorry to be a nuisance.

With respect to my military service, I was in touch with NNDB, which had been your source (I believe)for the erroneous information that I served in the Marine Corps. They verified (they said in a response) that I in fact served on active duty in the US Navy Reserve and made that change to the page on me in NNDB. I would still appreciate it if you could change that sentence in your article.

They also verified two financial contributions I made in 2012 to President Obama and so changed the statement that I supported Romney to one reflecting those two contributions. I am happy with the deletion you made, i.e., not addressing the subject at all, but would not object if you wanted to indicate that I supported President Obama.

Thanks for addressing my concerns. I realize you have more important matters to deal with.

Best,

Done. Dear Mr. Hamilton, biographies of living persons are important to us, and your comments are welcomed. We already removed the part about you supporting Romney, and I'm going to change the year of you becoming ambassador to Guatemala. You are right. You arrived at Guatemala in 2002, but you presented your credentials in 2003. I'm not an expert in diplomacy, but the article "Diplomatic accreditation" says that "ambassadors are not regarded as having officially taken up their duties until the accreditation process is complete". But, if you want us to include the information that you supported Obama for president, we'll have to ask you to provide us some reliable sources. Wikipedia depends upon reliable sources, and NNDB is obviously not reliable. Thanks! Vanjagenije (talk) 23:17, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
