Two Joseph Courtneys?[edit]

Hirolovesswords thanks for expanding this article. I think we have may conflation of two different Joseph Courtneys here. Joseph Patrick Courtney (1884–1922) from Worcester appears to have been the coach at Norwich in 1915. This 1915 article says he played at Lafayette and Villanova, "had experience coaching at Boston College" and assisted Frank Cavanaugh at Dartmouth. This 1911 article says that Boston College was coached by "Joseph J. Courtney, the former Fordham and Villa Nova backfield star". Thoughts? Jweiss11 (talk) 18:42, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jweiss11 To add further confusion, according to the Boston Globe on September 14, 1911, "Courtney, formerly of Holy Cross and later of Swarthmore, will coach the varsity eleven". As the most extensive write-up on Courtney's athletic career states that he coached for Boston College and Norwich, I believe that the Joseph Courtney who coached BC and Norwich are the same --Hirolovesswords (talk) 04:13, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then there's this 1908 article that discusses a Joseph Courtney of Worcester and Holy Cross playing baseball at Georgetown. Jweiss11 (talk) 18:50, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This Joseph Courtney died in 1909, which rules him out as being the same Courtney who coached at BC and Norwich. --Hirolovesswords (talk) 04:13, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
