Possible Records Error?[edit]

I'm not a big editor, but those numbers in the college records seem a little off. It might not be a bad idea to look into it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.11.33.205 (talk) 07:21, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Referenced expert comments are allowed in Wikipedia - that is the point of wikipedia[edit]

Someone deleted a reference I added to a current article regarding Cousins, summarizing his future with the Washington football team. To wit, he has no future with Washington, based on the referenced opinion. The referenced source was the Washington Post newspaper, a well known source of expert opinion. Wikipedia specifically allows expert opinion regarding future events that are almost certain to occur. Rhetorically, what is the point of Wikipedia if comments with referenced source can not be added? Please undo the vandalism and include the referenced comment or explain why the Washington Post is such a poor source to reference. Talking about future events is not speculation when expert opinion indicates they will almost certainly occur. Suggest the deletionist read the guidelines regarding speculation more closely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8806:2306:8900:D68:17EC:F32D:552C (talk) 04:12, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's not that the source was unreliable or false, it's just that putting this info is unneeded. You could put this on every player's article, as they won't always be employed by them. And even if it was added, it would just be removed next month anyway, so there is no longterm significance to doing this. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 05:45, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not every player is in the situation where expert authors, like the one referenced, feel a need to indicate that the player's departure is imminent. To say that every player gets an article about their departure written is not a statement based on fact. You are correct that the situation of Kirk Cousins will change in a month. Since when are facts in Wikipedia limited to those which have longterm significance?
  • I suggest you read WP:CRYSTAL. A player being released by a team is never "almost certain" by Wikipedia standards. What is almost certain to happen is the 2018 NFL season, the 2020 Summer Olympics, and the United States presidential election, 2020. As Dissident says, it's completely unneeded. Especially in the lead of the article. Lizard (talk) 06:01, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Your suggestion to read WP:CRYSTAL is simply an insult, an ad hominem attack, as my comment above references its substance. Not sure where you get your definition of "almost certain." The net effect of your deletionist vandalism is to reduce the quality of the article. You have succeeded in relegating the current situation of the player to the Wikipedia history of the article, the talk page and those publications such as the Washington Post, that are not as destructive as yourself.
    • My definition of "almost certain" comes directly from WP:CRYSTAL. Although the text in question doesn't explicitly violate WP:CRYSTAL, it's still largely unwarranted. Wikipedia is not a newspaper; its purpose isn't to provide daily or even weekly updates on players' situations (much less, an outsider's interpretation of a player's situation). When he's released—if he's released—the page will be updated accordingly. And please read WP:NOTVAND. Lizard (talk) 05:37, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • Pretty much this. He's officially on the Redskins roster until March 14, and then he either is or he isn't. No need to put this info in before that. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 09:03, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming you are asking for a Vikings-related one, you are going to have to wait until OTA's for them (as any promotional picture before then will not be free-use). If you are asking for a non-team specific general one, then find one that is free-use and an improvement over the current one and it will done. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 18:21, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cousins married Julie Hampton on June 28, 2014, in Atlanta, Georgia.[105] He is a Christian.[106] During his time with the Redskins, Cousins earned the nickname "Captain Kirk" from the media for his presence as a leader, referencing the Star Trek character.[107] REMOVE: He also appeared in several commercials with Easterns Motors, a D.C. used car dealership, with former Redskin teammates Josh Norman and Ryan Kerrigan.[108][109][110] REPLACE WITH: Kirk and Julie have two sons, Cooper born in 2017 and Turner in 2019. They currently split their time between Minnesota, W. Michigan and Georgia. The Cousins' family supports several charitable causes through the Julie and Kirk Cousins Foundation, including International Justice Mission, Urban HomeWorks and Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Lead image[edit]

I agree with @Hey man im josh that the existing 2019 picture of Cousins on the field in a Vikings uniform is preferable as the lead image. The 2016 picture that was changed to is 6 years old, of worse quality, and not particularly flattering. There are no specific guidelines on this, but simply seeing more of his face is not a good enough reason to change to it in my opinion. His face is still visible in the newer image, with the added benefit of portraying Cousins performing his profession and position on the field with his current team. His face is otherwise clearly visible in other images in the article. Ved havet ≈ (talk) 19:28, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Ved havet, I appreciate the input and support. An alternative that I see already in the Wikimedia commons is File:KC081119.jpg. It's not particularly amazing or flattering with his after-practice-hair, but, if someone is dead set on showing his face in the article this is an alternative I wouldn't revert. It's probably best to just seek out a recent picture of the guy that meets the upload criteria for Wikimedia commons. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:34, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Guess the guy who said take it to the talk page didn't want to go to the talk page.Hey man im josh (talk) 19:47, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I personally think the picture from the field is a better alternative based on quality and the benefits I mentioned above, but if there comes a consensus that File:KC081119.jpg is preferred, I'm not gonna drag out the discussion too much.

However, I will remind @153.18.72.14 that in disputes, per WP:QUO, it is the one proposing a change that has the responsibility to post their proposal on the talk page. It is wrong to keep making edits and suggest that the one reverting is to post about this on the talk page. As they didn't do so however, I created the section instead, but this responsibility still stands. I therefore suggest that @153.18.72.14 reiterate their suggestion regarding File:KC081119.jpg (or whatever other image they suggest we change to) in a comment on this talk page, and after that, @Hey man im josh may confirm whether they agree on this opinion, believe the current image should stay, or have a different suggestion.

Until then, and also per WP:QUO, the 2019 picture from the field has been the status quo for months, and should stay active until this consensus to change has been reached. I will therefore revert @153.18.72.14's change until they have correctly posted their suggestion on this talk page, and a consensus about it has been reached. Ved havet ≈ (talk) 19:55, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I'm in agreement with you, but it wasn't something I wasn't die on a hill for. Cousins' picture from 2019 where he's in a helmet better represents him as opposed to the post-practice helmetless picture from 2019. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:37, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Understood, and yes, agreed. I do appreciate @153.18.72.14's recent edit adding File:KC081119.jpg to the 2019 season-section instead, it fits better there considering his state and provides a fine variety as per MOS:IRELEV, with the higher quality image of Cousins in a uniform being more appropriate as a lead image. Passing percentage.[edit]

Marriage location[edit]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I swear in the Netflix show Quarterback (2023), Julie Cousins said that her and Kirk got married in Washington D.C. while he was with the Commanders. The article says Atlanta. Yeah the source is listed and says Atlanta, but I'm unsure because I'm positive Julie Cousins said Washington D.C. The article did say they got engaged there, but not married. I must've misheard something to be honest.
