Removal of hyperbole[edit]

Mangere does not have "vast" numbers of Polynesians, and the gang membership and activity within Mangere is at a relatively low level - the claim made the place sound overrun. Mangere did a more serious problem in the late 80's- early 90's but the gang influence has decreased over time. Unfortunately the reputation still persists in parts.

Merge[edit]

I'm not entirely sure what reasons might be given for the merge of Mangere with Mangere bridge - they're places with seperate histories, a geographic seperation, and have historically had different identities. I'm not sure I can say the same for Mangere East, although I can say that the term is often used to refer to an ill defined area to the east of Mangere. I support the merge of Mangere East and keeping Mangere Bridge seperate. Mostlyharmless 12:04, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I lived in Mangere for quite a while, and would say that Mangere East is definitely a concept in the minds of a lot of Mangere residents, but defining it in encyclopedic terms would be rather difficult. Its main focus was the small shopping centre, and proximity to Otahuhu (from which it is seperate). I'll talk to some more residents about the issue next time I'm up there. I think that the term "Mangere East" primarily refers to the shopping centre which contains the Mangere East library on Mangere Road. I do not think it can be isolated as a discrete suburb in any sense of the word. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 219.89.189.22 (talk • contribs) .

I grew up in Mangere East and always considered it to have a separate identity to Mangere. We had our own church, shops, library etc. 203.13.90.2 02:34, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Roger.[reply]
