TV Ratings[edit]

daily ratings? I think this is too much.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.1.89.200 (talk) 17:08, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It's taking too much space for this article. TJ Reyes 01:01, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i thinks it's ok to put the daily ratings so as to see the development of the show and how viewers respond to the show itself. a lot of space is available and the daily ratings won't hurt. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.107.87.219 (talk) 03:37, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Daily ratings are not encyclopedic and has been removed, and will be removed on sight. Starczamora (talk) 18:49, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting endorsements section[edit]

I don't see anything encyclopedic about listing every possible endorsements of a celebrity. I see this is as merely to satisfy fanboyism, which is strongly discouraged in Wikipedia. I am proposing to delete this section and instead create an Advertising work section (see Scarlett Johansson). Starczamora (talk) 14:21, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Occupations[edit]

Hi, I don't understand why "endorser" is on her occupation list. I don't see how it is an occupation. And I also do not see why "dancer" is needed. She is going to be releasing a dance video, but how does that make her a dancer? JetLover (talk) (Report a mistake) 01:27, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed that unnecessary info just a while ago, and it seemed to anger the mindless fanboys. As of now, I can't undo it. Starczamora (talk) 01:59, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've fully protected this page because of the edit warring and failure to discuss changes and produce an acceptable version here on the talk page. Now that the page is protected, if there is an edit that needs to be made to the page before the expiration of the protection, please place {{editprotected}} here on the talk page and explain exactly what changes need to be made. -MBK004 02:05, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
On second thought, perhaps a semi-protect may have been better idea... after all (after a quick look) it was mostly anons who were adding an "endorser" occupation. --Howard the Duck 16:14, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Revision of "Occupations" in infobox[edit]

{{editprotected}} Occupations of the subject should simply be "Actor" and "Model". "Endorser" is NOT an occupation, while "Dancer" is not conclusive (she is NOT a professional dancer, compared to Rochelle Pangilinan of SexBomb Girls). Starczamora (talk) 02:40, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{editprotected}} Also, can an admin add Category:People from Cavite? --Howard the Duck 16:11, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Neither of those is urgent enough that it needs to be done while the page is protected. Protection is scheduled to expire tomorrow. In the meantime, the most productive activity would be to resolve the disputes that led to protection.— Carl (CBM · talk) 13:02, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah OK, I thought protection was for an indefinite amount of time. --Howard the Duck 16:11, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that the fanboys don't listen. If we edit the article according to Wikipedia standards, they would still revert it and publish the article how THEY want to see it (disorganized, like a fan page, putting in even the most ridiculous of data). Starczamora (talk) 16:30, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As what I've said above, a semiprotect may have been a better idea. Nevertheless, if still the fanboys don't stop after protection has been lifted, I'd rather semi-protect it. At least we can monitor the "legit" users on their edits. --Howard the Duck 17:21, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Official website[edit]

A profile information on a separate website is NOT na official website of the subject, so I removed it. Starczamora (talk) 04:26, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Marian Rivera[edit]

That "Next big star" claim is cited. --Howard the Duck 07:07, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Marian Rivera[edit]

Kris Aquino admitted on THE BUZZ that Marian is the biggest star of her time —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dudeduckdick (talkcontribs) 09:16, 13 February 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Well, that's your opinion, but the reference says otherwise. Starczamora (talk) 14:21, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I dunno, but I don't think John Lapus represents the entire local entertainment press. --Howard the Duck 14:35, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it was not John Lapus who tagged Rivera as such...
(from the reference) JOHN: May pressure ba na tagged ka as The Next Big Star? (Translation: Do you feel any pressure that you are tagged as The Next Big Star?)
On second thought, I think we should remove that line because I've just found out that it was GMA Network who called Rivera The Next Big Star (chicken out here). Starczamora (talk) 14:55, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, if it was someone else or some other organization it would have been valid. --Howard the Duck 14:58, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is my latest edit encyclopedic enough? I wrote that GMA Network tagged her as its "Next Big Star"? Starczamora (talk) 15:00, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I dunno, GMA is too biased, and at first glance, it would seem that she's the "next big star" of all Filipino entertainment. --Howard the Duck 15:05, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll delete it altogether. Starczamora (talk) 15:07, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey! I have provided references that saying Marian did won the PMPC's Best New Female TV Personality and she did not have been NOMINATED only! Here's the url --> (click here). Nivrem110694 (talk) 06:41, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, starczamora- you shouldn't have deleted that 'next big star' part. Why? You said it right- GMA announced her as THEIR next Big Star, NOT the industry's next big star. Each network has their own line up of stars- and THAT network, especially such a giant as GMA, has every right to choose its' own big star... and they chose her, right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.104.244.39 (talk) 22:02, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable awards[edit]

Are school-based awards such as USTV Students' Choice Awards notable enough to be included in the article? I think this is so minor... Starczamora (talk) 17:20, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually this has been widely reported so it can be added here. --Howard the Duck 13:57, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Under the list of awards she got- for FHM's 100 Sexiest Women of 2008- why does it say the she was only 'included'- when she in fact bagged the #1 spot? That doesn't do justice to such a major achievement

School life / Education[edit]

To all great editors out there, please provide an topic about Marian's school life / education on her article. Here's the references:

Thank you! --Nivrem110694 (talk) 04:14, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TV appearances[edit]

Please include television shows where she is part of the main cast. Special guestings and/ or performances are not valid enough for inclusion in this article. Thanks! Starczamora (talk) 22:26, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Main image[edit]

There is absolutely NO NEED to replace free-use photos of Marian Rivera, as we can used BOTH photos in the article (i.e. Reese Witherspoon). However, a photo of her uploaded by User:Mhtsw has questionable license tag and should be resolved as soon as possible. Starczamora (talk) 01:35, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Major Clean-up[edit]

I've just noticed that this article needs major editing. It not only needs more sources for citations, but even simple grammar and usage rules aren't adhered to properly. No need for such unnecessary informations about her -Wikipedia is not a fansite. SBTVCAL (talk) 05:37, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Titles are also not needed. It just only makes a Fansite. SBTVCAL 05:40, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I've already cleaned-up the page. No need on unsourced statements about her without valid sources because again wikipedia is not a FANSITE or BLOGS. SBTVCAL 05:50, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

CONTROVERSY[edit]

Can someone please edit this section? The part talking about her You Tube controversy is not factual & obviously biased, if not LIBELOUS...

The statement simply declaring that she "still did NOT beat Angel Locsin" in the recently concluded Maxim's 100 appears so isolated & is unnecessary.

Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.104.244.39 (talk) 18:48, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clean Up[edit]

Removed POV Statements, this is a wikipedia, an encyclopedia not a Blog or a Fansites. Solidkapamilya (talk) 11:15, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any sort POV statements nor it resembles fansites or a blog. --SkyWalker (talk) 12:02, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with SkyWalker. You even go as far as deleting references which is the vital reservoir of information. As you know, these deleted-references make the statements encyclopedic. As what you mentioned of POV statements, you are even giving misleading information on the Angel Locsin's page which I considered so-POV. Why not spend your energy doing something useful on Wikipedia, instead of trying to bring your rules in editing articles that will only be reverted.. coz as you know, you will be challenged to the full extent of Wiki's rules and policy by editors here in Wikipedia. By the way, that is not a clean up.--Axxand SPEAK ACT 14:30, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why does everytime an Angel Locsin fanbot edits in Wikipedia, it would automatically edit Marian Rivera's article as well? Starczamora (talk) 15:07, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
fanbot?.--SkyWalker (talk) 15:15, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changed Style[edit]

I've changed its style to a better one, [1] is her official website.
I Also removed few POV Statements
The other awards was removed to a formal awards
The image was removed and I Uploaded a better one
Some null sources were also removed and made it a formal as Encyclopedia must have.Loverboyz (talk) 08:03, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You do not have to replace a photo because you can actually put TWO OR MORE images in an article. See Reese Witherspoon. I have also restored some well-cited statements that you claim violate POV but you actually made the article more amateurish. Starczamora (talk) 14:54, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted edits of Starczamora. 2 Images are already in the article. Note, her MariMar pictorail is more important than anything because its the way why she been popular. The other image was not really needed though i included it due to the request of Starczamora.Loverboyz (talk) 01:33, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Filmography also must begin Not at the TopLoverboyz (talk) 01:35, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Marimar photo is subject to copyright violations. Besides, your "Marimar pictorial is more important" logic is completely fannish. Try putting on a photo of Tom Cruise during a photoshoot of Risky Business. Starczamora (talk) 23:58, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image deleted[edit]

I've just deleted the image you uploaded as they came from commercial websites and am looking at the rest. You may not have realized it but we cannot accept images from websites, only ones with free licences - preferably images you took yourself with your camera. Can you tell me, so we can get this sorted, whether the rest of the images came from websites - I can delete them and walk you through how image uploads work here then.

The photo you have deleted is under OTRS, which means that the owner permitted Wikipedia to use such image. I supposed you are new to Wikipedia, so please read WP:IMAGE for more information. Thank you. Starczamora (talk) 14:18, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I've just noticed that your message was copy-pasted from a message posted on your talk page. Starczamora (talk) 14:27, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ENDORSEMENTS[edit]

Is it okay if you also put all her endorsements like Rhian Ramos' page and others? And also the magazines that she graced? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leighmarian (talkcontribs) 00:39, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No. Commercial endorsements are not encyclopedic, but charity endorsements are (like Jessica Alba's endorsement of Declare Yourself). Starczamora (talk) 20:00, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Her name[edit]

Spanish naming customs is that the father's surname is before the mother's. She was born in Madrid, Spain, her birth certificate will say Marian Gracia Rivera, not Marian Rivera Gracia, because her father's surname is Gracia, her mother's Rivera. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.25.1.226 (talk) 01:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is obvious that her family name at birth was Gracia Rivera as that is the the way names are registered in Spain where she was born. She goes by Rivera now and appears to have dropped her father's portion of her family name. Or has she formally or informally changed her family name to Rivera Gracia which the site http://www.igma.tv/profile/marian-rivera indicates she has, and is using the Spanish convention of dropping the last part of the family name in informal usage? If that is the case we could specify her full name currently as "Marian Rivera Gracia (born Marian Gracia Rivera) known as Marian Rivera". --NrDg 02:13, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Death hoax? and Wonder Woman pics?[edit]

WTF? death it says she is still active in the movie business? and wonder woman pictures make absoultely no sense whatsoever. Cleanup. big time. --Huik01 (talk) 06:45, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I still don't understand why the Wonder Woman pics are still there? --Huik01 (talk) 06:54, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Checked Thank you for deleting the vandalism pics. --Huik01 (talk) 09:03, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Official name or stage name?[edit]

Is Marian Rivera her official name now or her stage name? If it's her stage name, then the lead should be simply "Marian Gracia Rivera (born on..." instead of "Marian Rivera (born Marian Gracia Rivera on...". Renato (talk) 16:08, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I Don't understand...[edit]

...the meeaning of the sentence "Marian Rivera is currently GMA Network's talents". Does it mean "Marian Rivera is currently one of GMA Network's talents"? Or maybe "Marian Rivera is currently at GMA Network's talents". Or "Marian Rivera is currently a GMA Network's talent". Can anybody explain to me? Thanks. Renato (talk) 18:25, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

apparently the Philipines has a studio contract system with two major studios and Rivera is signed to GMA. I think the sentence may have been chopped to eliminate excessive fluffery that left it in a grammatically confusing state. Probably something like "Marian Rivera is currently signed with GMA Network." would be better. Active Banana ( bananaphone 18:30, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. So, if you don't mind, I'll copy and paste your version into the article. The current sentence cannot stay, I think. As for the previous topic of her name, do you have any insight? My inclination is to change the lead's first as I wrote there. Renato (talk) 21:15, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Awards and recognitions[edit]

What do you think? Why this section is not anymore included in Marian's article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.1.11.166 (talk) 04:40, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A vandalism edit removed it and nobody else noticed. I have restored it. 184.99.5.124 (talk) 17:02, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish people of Filipino descent or Filipino people of Spanish descent?[edit]

Her nationality is Filipino though her ancestry is partly Spanish. She can't be both unless she has both Spanish and Filipino nationality. As of now, she only has Filipino nationality. Sairyu (talk) 06:43, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Awards list excessive[edit]

I suggest that if an award does not have a wiki article it is not a notable award and is too minor to include in an awards list. Some organizations give awards to famous people to gain publicity for themselves and the award is not based on merit but on publicity value to the organization. We should not be supporting that in Wiki. Geraldo Perez (talk) 15:35, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
