Playing Position[edit]

I don't think Midfielder/Striker is accurate, as he has never played as a centre forward (look at www.football-lineups.com) and it certainly isn't his natural position. You're probably right. He actually has played as a centre-forward and second striker, at least for Everton, but this was due to injuries in the squad and he was a makeshift centre-forgvbhhbybybybybybybybybybybybybybybward; his natural position is as a central midfielder, and I don't think it's relevant to call him a striker as it's rare he plays that position. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.95.133.137 (talk) 18:05, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Style of Play[edit]

I am going to try and add a style of play category for this article, and edit a few things here and there, starting with his position, which can definitely be specified as a defensive midfield role after recent games, as opposed to what is currently specified as attacker. Defensive Midfield is not a position imo. Midfield is definitely, but defensive refers to his role and thus I don't think it qualifies a category. It only really signifies Midfielders behind attacking mids, and I have never seen it played on a pitch without attacking midfielders. There are numerous players and even matches where players flip flop between the two to suit the needs of the team but it seems to be simply a subset of midfielding for when managers specify a two line midfield.46.208.91.198 (talk) 19:33, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Defensive midfield is absolutely a specialised position, not a simple matter of circumstance. However, Fellaini is not primarily a defensive midfielder. A style of play section would be very useful for this section for a few reasons:

- He has a very distinctive style of play

- He usually plays as a central or advanced midfielder, but has a physique more associated with that of a central defender or target-man centre forward

- His use of the chest is considered among the best in the world

- He uses his strength and physicality a lot more than a typical advanced midfielder, who are usually among the smallest players on the field and rely more on technical skill

- He has often been used as a tactical variation by managers (including David Moyes at Everton and Manchester United, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho at Manchester United and Roberto Martinez at Belgium) when trailing at the end of games. In these situations he can play as a striker and use his physicality to win aerial duels, providing an outlet against compact defensive teams

Linhguistic identity[edit]

Fellani likely does speak French as there is much similarity, but the Native tongue of the Belgians is Flemish, which albeit a crossover of French and Dutch, and is different enough from both to qualify as another language.46.208.91.198 (talk) 19:33, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt that these sentences in the first paragraph are according to neutral POV rules: "He is regarded by many as One of the best players in the world.
