Untitled[edit]

This is the first page I've contributed to Wikipedia and within minutes of posting it's been marked for deletion due to not reaching the required 'notability guideline'. I'd be interested to know why... my suspicion is that the person who marked the page simply doesn't know anything about/has no interest of the UK magazine industry. But I really don't think ignorance is a valid enough reason.

I added the page because several pages on Wikipedia reference Matt Bielby with red broken links (Amiga Power, SFX magazine, Zero (magazine) - plus dozens of other pages make unlinked references), and also because he's launching a new magazine, Death Ray (for which I've also added an entry), that is seriously big news to fans of science fiction - especially as the magazine is launching as a direct competitor to the legendary SFX, which was also launched by Bielby. In addition, he's behind some of the UK's best-loved computer and videogames magazines and his influence has been felt far beyond the titles he's worked on as other publications have adopted the irreverent style he helped pioneer. Basically, if you grew up with videogames in the UK, from the ZX Spectrum to PlayStation 2, and have any kind of passion for magazines, you'll know who this guy is.

I admit that my entry probably needs a bit of tidying up - as I say, this is my first time posting anything on Wikipedia, and the formatting of articles takes a bit of getting used to. But I thought the whole point of Wikipedia was for users to contribute pages and others to refine them – though if all the effort that takes gets trashed because some 22-year-old from Hicksville isn't interested, then I don't really see the point in bothering.
