Untitled[edit]

Preferably in Chiefs uniform. Nascarfans (talk) 18:09, 5 December 2009 (UTC) I'm going to try to swap this page with "Matt Cassel". I did goof with the spelling creating duplicate articles. --Maxjoe 02:07, 23 August 2005 (UTC) Sorry for the confusion. Hopefully everything is all cleared up now. The correct spelling is "Matt Cassel". --Maxjoe 02:17, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Careers stats[edit]

Anyone have any ideas for how to better present career stats? There should be a standard for all football players, I think the John Elway article is the best I've seen for it. Cryomaniac 22:20, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just did that, looks much better now. Cryomaniac 19:35, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Testaverde[edit]

"Cassel is currently backup to Vinny Testeverde, but he is assumed to be retiring at seasons end, and resume his backup job at quarterback"

I removed this, because Testaverde was listed as the third (emergency) QB, even before Cassel assumed holding duties. [For Cassel to be Gostkowski's holder, he would have to be on the roster as the second QB.] Samer 21:41, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Someone changed this; again, even before Cassel became the holder, Testaverde was listed as the emergency QB. This would not have happened if he were second on the depth chart. Samer 13:59, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cassel as starter[edit]

About all we know at this point is that, barring some truly bizarre developments, Cassel will start against the Jets in Week 2; even if a player said "He's our QB for the rest of the season," that's not a fact, just an opinion.

Also, I subordinated the individual seasons under "Professional career". Samer (talk) 16:28, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Impending free agency[edit]

FWIW, the information I included is not a violation of WP:CBALL; I'm not trying to say what will happen, but simply report what others have already said. Anything else I post on the subject will follow the same rule. Samer (talk) 16:31, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From WP:CBALL (boldface mine): "Wikipedia is not a collection of unverifiable speculation. [...] It is appropriate to report discussion and arguments about the prospects for success of future proposals and projects or whether some development will occur, if discussion is properly referenced." That paragraph, as currently written, does exactly that, and is not a violation of WP:CBALL. Samer (talk) 00:12, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Need for cleanup[edit]

This is one of the poorest written articles i have seen. for instance the years seem wrong, and the middle school workout thing doesn't make sense. this article needs cleanup —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.228.149.134 (talk) 05:58, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, how does he lose the job to Leinart a year BEFORE Palmer wins the Heisman trophy??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.193.193.90 (talk) 12:19, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

the part about Heisman winner Jason White as true but . . .[edit]

The following part from Professional career:
" . . Chow was surprised to learn the Patriots had drafted Cassel in the seventh round, with the 230th overall pick,[16] ahead of more accomplished college quarterbacks such as Timmy Chang and 2003 Heisman trophy winner Jason White. . "

I think Jason White was never drafted at all because he was correctly perceived as having knee problems. So, the young man had a great college career and then moved on to other pursuits in life.
So, regarding Matt Cassel, we are including something technically true, but not really relevant to Cassel's NFL career. FriendlyRiverOtter (talk) 20:23, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Career Highlights[edit]

He has had 2 back to back 400 yard games (Against Jets and Dolphins, weeks 11 and 12) so that should be under career highlights since he is one of only a few to do that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.163.44.249 (talk) 22:28, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cassel as KC starter[edit]

While it's pretty darn obvious that Cassel is expected to be KC's starter when the 2009 season begins, Haley has explicitly said that he and Thigpen will compete for the job. Until he either starts a game, or the Chiefs make an announcement, it's a bit premature to anoint him the starter. Samer (talk) 04:09, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. --FrehleySpace Ace 09:05, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Off the field[edit]

Matt Cassel has enjoyed much attention off the field since the injusy of Tom Brady.[1] He has also been auditioning for movies such as Terminator and X-men and has sent his resume to VH1's surreal life[2] Also Matt has been credited with recently creating a new Boy Scout chapter in the Kansas City area and has opened a John Stamos fan club[3]. ~ the Associated Press —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.68.177.31 (talk) 22:53, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Then include it in the article. Seems fine.Kcchief915 (talk) 02:02, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Played"[edit]

Here's the reasons why it's not appropriate for "played" to be put in quotes. (1) WP:SCAREQUOTES makes the point that this is a practice to be avoided. (2) If we're being technical, he did play. He never started, but he did throw passes in real football games with USC. And (3) the section on his career makes it apparent what the quantity of his college career playing time was. Please don't use quotes in the lead to make a point already made. This is an encyclopedia article.--Cube lurker (talk) 15:24, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
