Dave Robinson[edit]

Dave Robinson has never been a resident of Mount Holly. He was born there, in the hospital on Madison Ave., and then his parents, Mary and Leslie Robinson, took him to their home in Mount Laurel. Robinson resided in that home until he went to State College, Pa. to attend Penn State University in 1959. Here's the most relevant evidence that supports my position:

  • Picken, Barbara and Gail Greenberg (1972), Mount Laurel: a centennial history, p.36: "Dave Robinson at the Hula Bowl which honored him as a Penn State senior in the late 1950's. Robinson was an All-American at Penn State and became a defensive end for the Green Bay Packers. He is the son of Mrs. Mary Robinson."
  • Kirp, David L., et al. (1995), Our town: race, housing, and the soul of suburbia, New Brunswick, New Jersey: Rutgers University Press, ISBN 08135524563, p. 44: "By the standards of Mount Laurel, Mary Robinson, then nearly sixty years old, a widow whose children were all grown, was an activist." "She owned her home, which she and her late husband, Leslie, bought in 1935 for a thousand dollars."

I remember that house. It was located on Mt. Laurel-Hainesport Road across from Hillside School and not very far from Mrs. Robinson's beloved Jacob's Chapel. And I remember seeing Dave Robinson at his home. He has been a friend of mine since we were kids and I know that he only lived in that house until 1959.

This evidence establishes Dave Robinson's place of residence far better than the location of the hospital where he was born. Therefore, I will remove his name from the list of notable residents. Robert M. Hunt (talk) 20:22, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There was no consensus for the move, but there may be a legitimate case here. Plenty of townships don't (and shouldn't) include the title -- see Teaneck, New Jersey and Bloomfield, New Jersey for some examples -- but see and participate at the discussion at WT:NJ to see what we should do on a more global basis. Notable people[edit]

An editor made a change to the "notable people" section here. I attempted to correct it here, by writing that inclusion in the notable people section includes "any famous or notable individuals that were born, or lived for a significant amount of time" in Mount Holly. This is copied exactly, word-for-word from Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline. Another editor then changed the wording to state that inclusion in the notable people section includes "people who were a resident of, or otherwise closely associated with, Mount Holly Township". This is clearly an incorrect interpretation of Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline. I have since removed the sentence entirely, as it is completely unnecessary and incorrect. Also, few articles about places in the United States add this sort of preface to a notable people list (or will hide a correct interpretation as an editors note). The editor seems insistent on adding his own interpretation of what makes people notable. I am seeking the input of other editors. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 05:00, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • User:Magnolia677 has never edited this article before and only decided to interfere after an edit I made to the article, a classic example of WP:Wikihounding. WP:USCITIES emphasizes that it is merely "advice about style" and that "is not a formal Wikipedia policy or guideline and is not part of the Manual of Style." WP:USCITIES provides no suggested wording for a heading. The wording used here is consistent with a broad range of policy and guidance on lists of notable and provides assistance to those editors adding entries to the list of notables as to what the standard is for inclusion. There is no argument offered here to justify this abusive disruption, let alone why the heading should be removed. Alansohn (talk) 05:15, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
