I think it s just soo disgusting how this profit oriented SOCO doesn t care about endangered species and the long term effect of oil drilling on the Virunga National Park. These profit greedy CEO s don t understand rational arguments. I really hope that the local pygmy population gives the SOCO what they deserve. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EdStorry (talkcontribs) 23:06, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Further improvements to SOCO International's page[edit]

Hello Theroadislong.. I would like to draw your attention to some new (third party sourced) facts which I believe are relevant and should be included on SOCO International's page, to further describe the nature of the company's operations in Vietnam and elsewhere....

Assuming you agree, under 'Operations' -> 'Vietnam' you could add these two factual sentences:

--- "In July 2015, SOCO signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PetroVietnam and SOVICO Holdings for potential exploration and production on Blocks 125-126 (offshore central Vietnam in the Phu Khanh Basin)."

--- "SOCO’s long-term partners since the formal signing of the contracts in 1999 have been PetroVietnam, the national oil company of Vietnam, and PTTEP, the national oil company of Thailand."

Under 'History' you could add:

"The Company had a year end balance in 2016 of US$104million, after payment of dividends to shareholders, with no debt reported. Capital expenditure for the year was US$82million."

I look forward to hearing from you, SOCOrep — Preceding unsigned comment added by SOCOrep (talkcontribs) 14:59, 31 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not done seems rather promotional and newsy. Theroadislong (talk) 19:59, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This page is now out of date in many respects. I declare my conflict or potential conflict of interest as a former employee of the company, though my employment post dated the contribution by SOCORep above. I am not aware of the identity of SOCORep, but the username and content suggests a member of staff. The comments below are not by any means exhaustive, and deal with only high level points. This will be my only attempt to have the page updated and improved for accuracy. Anything beyond this is for disinterested contributors.

The name of the company, and hence the name of the page, is correctly stated as Pharos Energy plc ([1], [2]and [3]), and references throughout the article to "SOCO" should be changed to "Pharos" or something similar. Pharos no longer has interests in the Republic of Congo and Angola, having divested both during the course of 2018 ([4] and [5]).

Pharos also now has an interest in Egypt, having acquired Merlon Petroleum El Fayum Company on 2 April 2019 this year. [6]. The company's corporate website is now pharos.energy [7], having migrated from www.socointernational.com on 24 October 2019.

The corporate logo on the sidebar is also out of date, and should be replaced. New logo here: [8].

The sidebar also contains financial information from 2014, when current annual financial information on the company is freely and publicly available.

The statement towards the end of the article that "However, SOCO has yet to relinquish its operating permits or commit to an unconditional withdrawal…"They’re leaving the door open," said Zach Abraham, director of the World Wildlife Fund's global campaigns." is false, and has been for several years. However, although this is dealt with at length on the company's website, there is an absence of independent source material available online. If the company's own regulatory disclosures are considered an inadequate source material it is not clear how this can be remedied.

Finally, and more trivially, it is unclear why under "See Also" in the article there are references to three further national parks, including two in Uganda, in addition to the DRC national park (Virunga) referenced in the "Criticisms" section of the article.

Typo: "suspect" should read "suspend" in the second paragraph of the page.
