Short list[edit]

This list only shows postal codes for the cities of Lima and El Callao. Are those really the only places in Peru with postal codes? --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 01:55, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: yes when you asked, but not any more. Reference: decreto supremo 007-2011-MTC, published in El Peruano of 23 February 2011.

Obsolete[edit]

A new nation-wide 5-digit postal code system has been implemented (see http://www.mtc.gob.pe/portal/CPOSTAL/inicio_codigo_postal2.html). Therefore, this entire article is now misinformative, albeit neither wrong nor useless. The information is still historically valid and philatelically useful; it should just not purport to be a list of current postal codes.

The new codes are far too many to be listed; adding them to the article would be way beyond the encyclopaedic scope of WP. Besides, they now correspond to geographic areas and do not necessarily follow administrative boundaries, so there is no meaningful way to name every code. The best way to deal with this situation would be to simply rename the article to something like "List of historical postal codes in Peru" and make prominent note that they are no longer valid.

I've added the new postal code format and linked through to the full list. I too am unable to to move the page, so have just left the old postal code format at the bottom of the page. Struggling to design chart[edit]

Hi folks,

I am happy and willing to put in the legwork to fill out this list with the recently updated Peru postal codes, but am struggling with how exactly to group the codes. At first, I was planning to arrange them by postal zone (01..., 02..., 03..., etc;) but it appears that postal zones can span multiple provinces and that approach could get quite cumbersome. Then, after some research, I learned that the first two digits represent a specific Peruvian department or region, but I haven't been able to wrap my head around using this as a sorting method. If there is anyone out there willing to design a template, or knows of one that I could adapt, I'd be much appreciative. M4CD0N4LD-D4N (talk) 00:39, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
