Queen Elizabeth Olympic ParkOlympic Park, London — This article has been prematurely moved. Although the current intention is to rename the Olympic Park as the "Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park", this will not take effect until 2013, after the site is reopened following the 2012 Summer Olympics. United Kingdom location[edit]

Should 'United Kingdom' not be adding to the location, since this is a UK overall event paid for by all UK citizens? MrCoots (talk) 16:23, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I did add "United Kingdom" to the article. MrCoots (talk) 09:17, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Before the Olympic park[edit]

What was there before, aside from '65 pylons'? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.144.216.8 (talk) 20:22, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah what the hell was there before? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.64.108.61 (talk) 03:38, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I've added a bit of text to say what was there before (greenfield/brownfield, Hackney Marshes) though I don't have a lot of detail. Would be nice to have a bit more info.--mcld (talk) 10:49, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Updated event information[edit]

Hi there - I'm requesting an edit as I have a COI (paid employee of the body that runs the Park). Our events team have spotted a few out of date references - if the Wikipedia gestalt were to take a look, that would be great. Happy to make them myself if an editor is happy with the below:

  • 'Future international sporting events' section is now out of date: the London Grand Prix was held in Glasgow in 2014 but returned to the Stadium in 2015 as part of the 'Anniversary Games'[1], 2014 Tour de France has now taken place, as have the 2015 European Hockey Championships[2]
  • To complete the list, it might make sense to add the other international matches that have been / are planned to take place in the Stadium, including parts of the 2015 Rugby World Cup[3], Freeze Big Air[4], and the Race of Champions 2015[5]. The Park also plays an important role as the host of the annual National Paralympic Day, which is now in its third year[6][7]
  • I'm delighted to say we won the right to host both the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships[8] and the LEN European Aquatics Championships 2016[9], both of which are currently referred to as potential rather than definite events
  • The 'concerts' section is out of date. Live Nation ran a series of (excellent) music events in 2013[10], and since then the Park team in association with a number of events organisations have put on small and large scale music and cultural events including the Invictus Games closing and opening ceremonies, the 'Great British Carnival', and others[11]
  • And a point of pure pedantry: the International Quarter is not one of the five neighbourhoods specified in the Legacy Communities Scheme (the planning document that set out the Park's post-Games use) - so it should probably be deleted from that list, especially as there is a separate section for The International Quarter underneath. In this section it may be worth mentioning that TfL[12] and the FCA[13] are set to move to The International Quarter in the coming years
  • The introduction is written in a way that makes it sound like 2014 is in the future - whereas all of the Park is now open

Lukeoflondon, these sound like pretty straight forward updates. I'd say if you want to try your hand at them then give it a go. I've followed the article and can track the changes. Ping me when you get done and I can just give it a once over. TimothyJosephWood 15:33, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Potential sources[edit]

A burst of coverage due to the 10th anniversary (oh man that makes me feel old) with a mix of views on legacy

There's also a new book Olympic Park: When Britain Built Something Big, just ordered a copy and hopefully it will prove useful. And not a RS itself, but Harpers's Parkipedia has collated lots of links to media coverage. the wub "?!" 23:17, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
