Non-Triple Crown nominated horses[edit]

Shouldn't the Road to the KY Derby chart - with the points allocations - still reflect horses who have earned points yet are not yet TC nominated? Example being the win, place, show finishers in the El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields on Feb 16th. While winner Dice Flavor is not currently TC nominated he still can easily be so nominated via the second closing March 23, 2013 for $6,000. Unless I've missed an update he (and the 2nd and 3rd, finishers) were not factored into the running Derby points chart.

A footnote for those points earning horses not nominated to the TC is fine to tack on. However leaving them off would seemingly be a bigger headache to try and go back and re-add any of them later. Currently the wiki chart still shows horses who are effectively off the Derby trail by virtue of injury yet still with points. Thoughts? --Kellsboro Jack (talk) 18:16, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The non-nominated horses are designated in brown in the overall standings so they are already reflected there. If you look at the standings, you'll see Dice Flavor and others not yet nominated reflected with their associated points if they pursue the required fees to be nominated....unless I'm seeing this note after this was already taken care of. The wiki-page is usually a bit time lagged due to the official sources having their data available first. Stylteralmaldo (talk) 14:55, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The standings were changed shortly after my comments before so it appears as if it was simply a timing issue. --Kellsboro Jack (talk) 14:29, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Split?[edit]

User:Kakelly17 had an idea to create separate articles for each year. I think it's a good one. Anyone else want to comment? I'd recommend making this an overview and then moving the charts to respective articles for 2012, 2013, etc... Montanabw(talk) 04:02, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think the same should be done with the Road to the Kentucky Oaks page as well. Kakelly17 (talk) 08:00, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that it may be time to split this into three separate pages, one for 2013, 2014, and the 2015 seasons. Perhaps the "History" section can either be included in the lead or re-named as a sort of background section. Looking at that paragraph, the verbiage essentially pertains to 2013 with with exception of the following sentence: In 2013, the series consisted of 36 races but has since been reduced to 34. That sentence shows the difference between 2013 season (which consisted of 34 races) and the 2014 season (which consisted of 36 races). I propose that the 2013 page describe the fact that there were 36 races and then the 2014 page describe the change from 34 to 36 (explaining which races were added, which were deleted etc.). Then the 2015 page could describe any changes that may have taken place (any new races, races removed, etc.). I think you get the picture. In other words, each page would reflect the history in the background section. Those are my thoughts regarding continuity. Stylteralmaldo (talk) 15:51, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As far as the Road to the Kentucky Oaks.....we could probably do the same there. Not sure that series is as significant as the Road to Kentucky Derby, but splitting that would be consistent nonetheless. Stylteralmaldo (talk) 15:51, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The Oaks is close to as significant as the Derby (it's the fillies' race). Let's do this:
  1. Create an opening section here that can be the overview that links to each year.
  2. Clean up the individual year history bits as an intro for each new article
  3. Then spin off the years.

Will that work? Montanabw(talk) 22:56, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Works for me. Stylteralmaldo (talk) 22:49, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've gone ahead and created three new pages for each of the first three seasons on the road to the Kentucky Derby. They are just starter pages as I merely copied the raw data (standing and races) from each of the three seasons. If someone could move forward and start 'standardizing' the pages so they are consistent in format for each of the three seasons, that would be great. We'll also need a lead for each page specific to that year's 'road'. My hope is that the year-to-year articles can expand more on the nuances of a particular year which would be missed on the more general page.
Please feel free to help clean up these pages. There's some good potential to have some nice articles here. Thanks!
Stylteralmaldo (talk) 16:33, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • COOL! I cleaned them up, added some intro stuff from here and all the categories, etc. I think 2015 should stay until at least after the Derby, I don't know if we should continue to have the current year charts on the main page at all, but for this year we should because people are watching it... and maybe wise each year so people don't lost stuff on their watchlists... (?) The road probably should be linked from the article for that year's races. I'm Ok doing the same for the oaks, but I have an FAC and other fish to fry so the more you can imitate my polishing (and improve on it?) for the Oaks, I'll be happy.

HELP![edit]

Work needed on prep season at 2016 Road to the Kentucky Derby. I did a lot of work on the 2015 version, but not the prep season charts... any helpers are welcome! Montanabw(talk) 21:26, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why are old discussions being deleted rather than archived?[edit]

I just found this a bit curious. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 22:14, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

They should not be. Stylteralmaldo, can you kindly archive or hat the stuff you removed here and at the Road to the Oaks articles so that we don't mess up the article history? Montanabw(talk) 01:36, 3 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for that. I didn't realize the importance of the archive function as it pertains to this page. I re-added the info I had previously deleted. I'll do the same at the Oaks page. Stylteralmaldo (talk) 18:07, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
