Rationale for removal of image?[edit]

I noticed another user removed the image from this page. I dispute the finding that this constitutes an unfair usage of the image. It is after all already displayed in other SOAS Articles without much dispute.Encycjwp (talk) 22:44, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Encycjwp: did you read the content of the links in my edit summary: WP:NFCC#10c and WP:FUR? The image is displayed in SOAS, University of London without dispute because there is a specific and relevant rationale for that use on the file description page at File:SOAS Crest.jpg – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 22:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Finnusertop and Talk: I did note that and this is the same logo for the same school. Same school. Same logo. Same file. Same rationale. I fail to see the distinction. I'm not interested in playing semantics with wikipedians. There's far too much of that going on here already- and that says a lot coming from a failed lawyer such as myself. If you insist on changing it, so be it. But maybe after other users have a say on this. I see no logic in removing a school logo from a page of the law school because there is no specific and relevant rationale in regards to the relevant file. @Encycjwp: WP:NFCC#10c leaves no room for semantic ambiguity:

"The name of each article (a link to each article is also recommended) in which fair use is claimed for the item, and a separate, specific non-free use rationale for each use of the item"

(emphasis mine) is required on the image description page at File:SOAS Crest.jpg.

That is, if you think the rest of WP:NFC is met. While this is the same logo of the same school, it is also the case that the SOAS School of Law is a sub-unit of the SOAS. WP:NFC#UUI§17 specifically says that it is unacceptable when

"The logo of an entity used for identification of one of its child entities, when the child entity lacks their own branding."

@Finnusertop and Talk: I previously uploaded a version of the 'official' law school logo. It is the same logo with the School of Law name beneath it. That image was removed for more of this bickering under similar circumstances. It's getting tiresome. If use of the logo won't ever be in 'fair use' no matter how much common sense might indicate, whatever.Encycjwp (talk) 22:04, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Encycjwp: I've seen logos like that (an official logo of a child entity featuring the crest of the parent entity and some text identifying the child entity) being upheld at WP:FFD. As far as I'm concerned, such a logo would be acceptable here.

If you are talking about File:SOAS School of Law logo.jpg, it was removed for another reason entirely (it was marked as free, where it should have been marked as unfree). You should be able to upload it here on Wikipedia (not on Commons) and replace the current SOAS logo in this article. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 22:11, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
