Advertising?[edit]

Much of this reads like a PR sheet for the firm, but that seems to be a rampant problem for pages for commercial entities. Redneb 19:33, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The only text I could find that read like an advertisement was in the header;
"Sheetz has marketed the Sheetz loadable gift card, the Sheetz Z-Card; Sheetz chicken wings, marketed as "Shwingz"; the Sheetz breakfast sandwich marketed as "Shmuffinz" and "Nachoz.""
...which I have just removed.

Vandalism of this page[edit]

Just by looking at the recent edits, it seems like there has been a lot of vandalism as of late. I'm glad that someone is keeping up on these, but still, what do you think we should do about it?--Jgera5 18:43, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Restaurant Health Codes[edit]

There is no law (at least in Pennsylvania) requiring males working in a restaurant to be clean shaven. In fact, it is not even required that hair be restrained in a kitchen. However, most restaurants make these rules in-house to eliminate some customer complaints. In resonse to the first comment: I know a lot of people that work for Sheetz, and they said that they follow restaurant-style health code standards. I'm not debating what anyone has said. I'm just saying that there are no formal laws in Pennsylvania regarding hair restraint. I've been a restaurant manager in Pennsylvania for ten years now, and there has never been any law like that, although most of the public believes that there is. Local health departments and the PA Department of Agriculture are far more concerned with sanitation and temperature control than they are with hair, and that's why none of their rules mention it. However, most food service establishments do have internal rules to prevent hair and other "body parts" from finding its way into food or on to food preparation surfaces. But that's more for business reasons (customers don't like hair or fingernails or scabs in their food) than it is for health code reasons. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Primium mobile (talk • contribs) .

Tone[edit]

I tagged this article because everything on this page sounds like it was written as an advertisement. There is nothing about the two food-borne illness scares, just as an example. The list or superlatives is almost as long as the regular article. Primium mobile 15:50, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that the article sounds too much like an advertisement. I've been watching this page for quite a while and the food-borne illness scares were never mentioned as far as I can remember. I think they should be mentioned, but nobody has taken the time to do so. I don't think this article contains any more superlatives as do most company Wikipedia articles (ie. Wawa). Gasoline[edit]

Can anyone verify where Sheetz and Wawa and the like get their gasoline? I understood they simply got it from "local" refineries, but there is nothing really solid I can add to the page based on that.. --Armandoban 19:02, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Facts (aka Trivia) section of page[edit]

I disagree with SchuminWeb's removal of this section of the page. While I agree that some of the items should be removed due to lack of a citation, there are several items that were in the fact list that do indeed have citations. Fair use rationale for Image:Sheetz Logo.gif[edit]

Image:Sheetz Logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

I'm inclined to agree - it has nothing to do with Sheetz, and all to do with Jeff Reed (American football). Since the incident is adequately covered in the article about Reed, and Sheetz was simply unfortunate enough to be the place where he flashed, by having a whole section on it, we're giving it undue weight. Footprint Map needs to be updated. I'll give just a couple of examples; In Pennsylvania there is a Sheetz in McConnellsburg, Fulton County. That county does not have a dot representing that location. To me, this brings the real utility of the footprint map into question. Do we really want to mark a dot on the map for every single Sheetz? Probably not. This is also not supposed to be a store locator, and that would run afoul of WP:NOTDIR anyway. The whole map can be summed up by saying, "Sheetz has locations in the mid-Atlantic United States." OK, I screwed up that map pretty bad (I found a coding error that left out like half the stores) - I've fixed it. However, I still find it quite helpful to be able to view a map to see the locations where a store exists, so I'm going to put it back as it seems like most opposition here is because I goofed it up so badly. That map is completely wrong. As of today, (5-9-12) Sheetz has around 419 locations. There aren't even close to that many locatioins shown on this map. The Butler/Lyndora area alone has at least four, yet there is only one on the map. Primium mobile (talk) 17:19, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've just updated the footprint map to approximate a current map, as of this writing. Of course, it'll progressively grow out of date, as time marches on. I included a soon-to-open location at 3208 N Duke St, in Durham, NC. Also, I did not exclude locations that Sheetz, presently, indicates as "Temporarily Closed", since, if they're good enough for the company to continue to list on the sheetz.com location search, then they're good enough to map. For anyone for whom these things might be an issue, please think of the footprint map as an anthropological study.
I'd like to express great respect and appreciate to @Magog the Ogre: for originating the concept of branch maps on wikipedia, not to mention him doing the hard work of programming a system by which someone like me, with nothing more than a set of coordinates, could so easily create such a map.
