Random Pre-release conjecture[edit]

Does anyone know who the last skater will be? He (or she??) will probably be revealed in the final trailer. Or Theyre counting Big Black as a skater. What do you think?

I doubt it's P-Rod, theres no way hes going to be in both games.

I hear that its likely this game wont come out until Q4 2007. Apparently the game is still in development. Here is a link http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sports/skate/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-33237595&pid=935644

This is what was said.

Jan 24, 2007 10:52 am PT I just spent half an hour talking to tech support for EA canada and they themselves spoke to PR reps of EA Blackbox while I was on hold. ALL OF THE RELEASE DATES MENTIONED ONLINE ARE RUMORS. THE GAME IS STILL IN DEVELOPMENT AND IT COULD BE MONTHS BEFORE ANY RELEASE DATE IS CONFIRMED. This means a Q4 of 2007 release is highly realistic. Yes this sucks, but we need to just chill and wait. They are putting a lot of time into this game to make it as good as it can be. Call tech support yourselves if you want, but this is what they will tell you.

Game Engine[edit]

Does anyone know the name of the game engine (i.e., middleware) used in the development of Skate.? Is it third-party or in-house? Aeonassoc 14:39, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Refrences?[edit]

Where did the refrences go? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 142.205.240.202 (talk) 16:28, 8 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

P-rod?[edit]

Are we sure that P-rod is in the game? It's not likely due to the fact that he was in the THp8 Game. He probably signed a contract? anyone have any real evidence? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 142.205.212.183 (talk) 21:13, 21 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

hes in the game. hes even in a video for the game. http://youtube.com/watch?v=8l-Y7cYoUFA —Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.40.194.228 (talk) 18:01, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P-Rod is in game you can easily see it on many internet videos. [1] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.162.217.46 (talk) 18:01, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Graham Bickerstaff and Antwuan Dixon?[edit]

Are they in it? Someone cite this. I hope its not some jackass vandalizing —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.54.97.142 (talk) 03:42, 8 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I sure hope they're in the game. Antwuan has one of the best styles. Yeah they cool like that ya'll. Juggling rules and so does baseball and sk8in.

Rename to Skate (Video Game)?[edit]

  • Seems like the box art says skate. but pretty much everyone that mentions the game in prose or as a title calls it skate, Skate or SKATE exclusively (no period). This includes EA (the game's publisher) and the official website of the game: [2]. See also, IGN, GameSpy, and GameStop. To further complicate things, xbox.com calls it skate.: [3]. Seems like the common convention is not to name it with the period, so this page should be moved. Thoughts? Oren0 17:28, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • the name of the game is "skate.". Nobody is going to say "Yeah, we're developing this awesome game, its called skate dot." They're just going to say "skate". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.25.115.99 (talk) 04:05, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks) would necessitate this article be moved to Skate (video game) and all occurences of the game's name in the article should appear as Skate, without decorative punctuation, and with a capital initial letter, as it is a proper noun. Nohat 07:16, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • This page has been moved at least twice. We need to settle on something, and I'm still in favor of Stake (video game). Oren0 07:25, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • Since there was no further comment on this issue, I have moved the article and edited it to comply with MOS:TM. Nohat 07:56, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • the name of this page should be skate., this is how it is on the box and throughout the manual it is reffered as skate.. I would also like to point out that the skate. website also writes it skate. here, take note on the Game facts section it is actualy wrote as skate without the period. Therefore this articles name of Skate is, I belive, wrong.212.50.191.54 14:31, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why don't we call it EA Skate? --BRTman666 (talk) 16:44, 14 April 2008 (UTC)BRTman666[reply]
  • Treat "Skate." as "Skate" according to WP:MOSTM and describe the game in Skate (video game) where it is now. It is not part of Wikipedia policy to do people's advertizing for them by imitating cutesy or "cool" typographical oddities designed to make the name stand out. New Box Art[edit]

Here's a new box art for this game with an updated ESRB rating from Amazon:

Lost Reference[edit]

I was wondering if it were appropriate to put in a trivia section that the loading screen has the number 4, 8, 15, and 16 all in order. I know we shouldn't do it unless there was proof that it was an intentional reference and I wouldn't know where to go for that. Any thoughts?--Johnnyreb 14:29, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hall Of Meat[edit]

Why is there no note about the Hall Of Meat bit? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.145.241.211 (talk) 17:24, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Messed Up Page[edit]

The first part about it should be titled gameplay and do we really need a picture on the same section where the box cover is? Bleach 2982 (talk) 23:20, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Skate. 2[edit]

Why doesn't anyone start a Skate 2 page or at least a section about possible updates and new features on the original page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by FortWhatever (talkcontribs) 16:00, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't seen a reliable source that says there will be a .skate 2. Even then, it may not have enough information for the game for a separate page. --MASEM 17:58, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did create one but it has been trashed and now when you search skate 2 it goes to skate. Details are coming in, teasers are being released, let me go create the page again. -- ZookPS3 (talk) 18:56, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think the Skate 2 section is getting pretty long, time for a the new game to get its own page (or at least very close) Racer x124 (talk) 22:07, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The newly created Skate 2 article seems mostly accurate accept for one thing. The release date section seems to be off. The fact that the game could come out in November is a slim possibility but, If it's true I want to see proof. FortWhatever (talk) 01:38, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Old talk[edit]

Most of the talk in this section has been resolved/answered and can be removed. Especially old press release stuff. Racer x124 (talk) 22:13, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's not how article talk-pages work. Could archive the old stuff if you like. DMacks (talk) 01:46, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is a bit too short to bother archiving... maybe when it reaches 30 or so "questions". Chris Picone! 03:47, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Change name to Skate.[edit]

While the title of the game must be capitalized per the manual of style, the period at the end of it is missing for apparently no reason. This is how the game is referred to by the developer, thus we should name the page Skate. to reflect that. (At that point, we might as well use the {{lowercase}} tag, I guess)Chris Picone! 03:45, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

yeah everywhere its referred as Skate.(with a period) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Estemshorn (talkcontribs) 08:40, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The MOS also states that we ignore unnecessary symbols that may be used in the commercial name that would lead to confusion; the period in "skate." would make it difficult to recognize the end of sentences and is also extraneous. We can note that the game is listed on the cover as "skate." but we have to stick to "Skate" for the rest of ithe discussion. --MASEM 13:14, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the thing is that skate. is actually its name. Just like .NET is actually the name of Microsoft's service, skate. is the actual name of the game, according to the developers (in more than just marketing, I'll get some sources. While it makes sense to omit the period an capitalize within the article, shouldn't the name of the article itself have the period? Chris Picone! 20:36, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A preceding period is not going to cause the same confusion in sentence structure as a trailing period. It is also purely decorative (.NET is vocalized as "dot NET", while "skate." is just "skate". --MASEM 21:45, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Skate 2 Merger[edit]

I don't think there has been enough coverage or information released about Skate 2 to justify it's own article. Currently, the bulk of the article is made up of a list of skater and the soundrack, both of which I feel are not particularly notable. It would be much better to have a Sequel or Skate 2 section here for the time being, at least until more notable details are available. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 13:44, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i disagree. you could add a section onto skate about a sequel, and link it to here... but thats it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Estemshorn (talkcontribs) 14:33, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why? Like I said, the soundtrack list is WP:TRIVIA and the list of skaters is unencylopedic and both sections should be removed. That leave so little information that it doesn't justify an article. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 14:50, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've just added a Sequel section to this article which contains all of the notable information from Skate 2. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 14:55, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

okay, i agree with merging until we get WAY more information. Estemshorn (talk) 16:02, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's plenty of information including features, story line and more. All skaters have been confirmed. There's enough for its own page. People just arn't adding it, or some are deleting it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.234.132.43 (talk) 21:43, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The game will be out in two months, and unfortunately my load is too busy but there's a lot of articles out there for the game. Merging at this point is too late. If the game was, say, 6 or 9 months out, that would be different. --MASEM 14:42, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Music[edit]

I was going to list all the tracks in game, like with THP8. If I've missed any tell me. --Sebastien. (talk) 15:55, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't list them, wikipedia is not a game guide or indiscriminate list of information. Thanks! Fin© 18:27, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, they did in THP8 article and I think people, me as well, would like to know what songs are on there.--Sebastien. (talk) 18:50, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that people may find it useful is not enough reason to have it in the article. Like Falcon said above, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. The game's soundtrack is not particularly notable. Normally, to be considered notable, something would need to have received coverage from independant reliable sources. For example, if there was something particlularly interesting about the soundtrack which had been discussed in articles on gaming websites. That is not the case here. The soundtrack is pretty standard for a game of this type. I would suggest the same is true of THP8 and the information shouldn't be listed there either. But I see that it was only added recently and probably just hadn't been spotted yet. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 19:19, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal of series overview article[edit]

With a recent announcement about a fourth Skate game in development, and seeing that there is no Wikipedia article about the Skate series, I decided to write up a draft of one to bring awareness to the overall series, but it was rejected on review with a prompt to make it a request as a split-off article from the original game. Please review the draft article carefully and assess whether it would be appropriate for a series overview article to be written.
