SEGA’s Division Manager wants Sonic to surpass Mario[edit]
In an interview with My Nintendo News, SEGA’s Division Manager said that he wants Sonic’s franchise to surpass Mario’s. He stated that the reason for this is because Sonic was designed to compete with Mario. GuyUser81 (talk) 21:10, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure that's really all that important to note. All Business Managers want to sell as much as possible of their respective commercial product, and few publishers wouldn't want the sales that Mario brings in. I feel that the article for Sonic the character should be the article titled Sonic the Hedgehog and the Sonic series should be labelled as Sonic the Hedgehog (franchise), as this is what is done for Mario and his franchise. 2601:243:C901:4600:4006:2415:2EF7:D279 (talk) 01:49, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The current title was set by consensus in 2016. Personally I don’t think consistency with Mario counts for much, as for any multimedia franchise the due weight of the named character versus the franchise as a whole can be completely different. Although gauging that can be difficult, I’ll point out this is an article with over 550 citations, which should say a lot about the noteworthiness of the franchise.
