Introduction[edit]

First of all, I apologize if I do not meet the criteria, I have never commented before, but I just wanted to point out that is mentioned in the introduction that ARGENTINA is among the teams that have won the World Cup in a continent different that theirs, however, Argentina won the World Cup in Argentina and Mexico, that is America in both cases, the same continent. I don't believe in this case is relevant the fact that Mexico belongs to another Confederation, as the main point of the comment is national teams that win far from home, that is geography as the main point and not bureaucratic organization of territory. Thanks for your attention.187.195.237.154 (talk) 07:35, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. I have fixed it, thank you for spotting it! Raystorm (¿Sí?) 13:37, 28 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

About continents[edit]

The fact than Spain (along with Brazil) has won the world cup outside its home continent is mentioned twice, although this is not completely true. Spain has a small part of its national territory in Africa too: the Canary islands and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, so Spain is geographically in two continents (just like Turkey or Russia). Two players of the winning squad in the 2010 tournament (Silva and Pedro) are native from the Canary islands, so they were playing in their home continent, actually. Of course Spain plays in the european federation and we can take it as an european country, but this leads to some inconsistence with the case of Argentina winning in Mexico; if we use the federation as criterium, both Argentina and Spain have won outside its continent. If we use a pure geographical criterium Argentina won in its own 'continent' if we define so (the Americas), but also Spain won in its own continent (because Spain is both a european and african country from a pure geographical point of view). Paquito xocolatero (talk) 09:28, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, geographically Spain is an European country and also an African country, but in sports is only an European country, because it belongs to European federations. In case of football to UEFA, and not to CAF. Spain won its place to World Cup as an European team, so that sentence is OK. --Millars (talk) 21:29, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article size / Split[edit]

This article is quite long at over 100 kilobytes. Wiki article size guidelines say that articles over 60kB should be divided. I plan to create a History of the Spain national football team article. I will move certain content from the main article — much of the material from the History, Colours, and Previous Squads sections — into the History article. I wanted to give readers some warning before big chunks of this article start moving over. Barryjjoyce (talk) 02:01, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Rizky Iconia: You reverted the recent changes made by 2nyte (talk · contribs) and by me. Let's use this talk page to discuss. Please explain your changes. I'm also interested in others' thoughts too. Thanks. Barryjjoyce (talk) 11:29, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with moving the content in the history section (that's why I moved it). I was planning to add a summary in the history section, but I currently don't have the time to, maybe in a few days. So I think we should undo the edit made by Rizky Iconia and move the content again.--2nyte (talk) 12:12, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In the player list, David Villa's club is listed as "Melbourne City". This should be changed to "Atletico Madrid", as that is the club he currently plays for.

Caps and goals[edit]

C'mon people, if you're gonna update them, also make sure of changing the text above the list, you know which one, the one that says Caps and goals as of blah, blah, blah after the match against team whatever. I've already had two edits reversed because of that!Intruder007 (talk) 00:26, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lead fix[edit]

"The team's achievements have led many commentators, experts and former players to consider the current Spanish side among the best ever international sides in world football.[7][8][9][10][11]"

What has happened to several of the footballers?[edit]

Why have several footballers who have played even very recently been removed? Examples include David de Gea, Paco Alcacer, Javi Martinez, Munir el Haddadi and Rodrigo Moreno. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.103.56.229 (talk) 00:00, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Some editors seems to like removing players even when they should stay for 12 months. I have restored the latest removal. QED237 (talk) 00:09, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Recent calls-up[edit]

As usual , recent calls up for Spain is missing the player dropped from recent squad...where is Juanfran A.madrid full back ? and Sergio Madrid real madrid CB. plus San Jose is playing for both Club and Spain for over a year now as defensive mid shouldn't his name be among mid not def ? I know he started his career as cb but he isn't playing there for neither club or national team anymore .

thank you . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.171.105.74 (talk) 19:08, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Match Spain–Georgia, 2016-06-07, start time[edit]

UEFA is giving contradicting infos about start time. According to

http://www.uefa.com/friendlies/season=2016/matches/round=2000582/match=2019893/prematch/head-to-head/index.html

and

http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/season=2016/teams/team=122/matches/

match starts at 20:00. But according to

http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/news/newsid=2302779.html

match starts at 20:45. Also

http://www.sefutbol.com/calendario/2016-06

and

http://tickets.rfef.es/event/amistoso-espana-vs-georgia/

are saying start time is 20:45. --80.171.84.187 (talk) 18:29, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"current head coach"[edit]

who is it? we know del bosque has quit (somewhat ignominiously after years of success), but where's the citation that caparros has taken over? nothing on his own entry indicates that he's been appointed, & this article contradicts this assertion itself if you scroll down to the coaching staff section. besides, a quick look at caparros' resumé suggests that he lacks the necessary ability to continue where del bosque left off.

Koke and Saul being removed from recent squad[edit]

I've noticed that Koke and Saúl have repeatedly been removed from the recent call-up section despite being nominated less than 12 months ago. Is it just vandalism and if so, can the page be made semi-protected to avoid random users editing the page? --SdHb (talk) 22:36, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

World Rankings listed records[edit]

In 2009, the team is listed to have gone 15-0-1 when, in fact, their record that year involved no draws and loss to the United States in the Confederation Cup semi-final. The record needs to be amended to reflect the actual results. For a detailed list of results from 2009, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spain_national_football_team_results_(2000%E2%80%9309)#2009.

Upon further inspection, there seems to be a problem with the list as a whole. In 2008, the team is listed as winning 15 and losing 1, when they actually won 15 and drew 1. In 2007, they are listed as 10 wins and 2 losses, when they were actually 10 wins and 2 draws. Furthermore, in 2006 they won 8, lost 4 and drew 2. The site has the losses and the draws reversed in all four of these years. This is should be a simple mistake to correct, but one that needs to have each years results inspected to ensure accuracy.
