Interesting Stats 'n' Stuff[edit]

I'd like to add these links to the main article under trivia and external links. While the first two are "trivial", they are essential facts to "500" fans and historians. The links serve to prove the assertions. The third is purely interesting (at least to me). While I had heard of Ted Horn, I had never seen a picture of him or knew much about him other than his stats.

Ted Horn has the best 10-year streak of finishes in Indianapolis 500 history.

Over his Indianapolis 500 career, Ted Horn completed 1944 out of a possible 2000 laps (97%).

The links should not be considered a reliable source because there are better sources available. As the author of your site you obviously must have access to them. Citing direct sources is always preferred over indirect web content, thus your site can't be used to prove trivia assertions. It's no different than taking your word for it as an editor. Cite your original sources or not, you can simply integrate the facts in the article. I appreciate that you want to contribute to Wikipedia through your site, but it's not the only one on the Web, and this is not what external linking is for. Femto 19:35, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Technically, that's original research, another reason to avoid links. They belong more on this talk page—as your editing notes—rather than into the article as citations. There should be no doubt about the verifiability of your derivations though, so including the facts themselves is fine. (Done that. Yup, that's pretty standard Indy 500 jargon alright! "To sit on the pole" means "to start the race from the pole position (i.e. 1st on the grid)". I've reworded a bit. --Mycroft.Holmes 16:16, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More citations needed[edit]
