Wow, sorry, I only JUST saw this. We could probably come up with some of the dates, but I don't think it would be possible to come up with them all. So much is pre-Internet.

Sorry I neglected to describe the two minor changes I just made. The independent source that supports the adjective "legendary" described the club as "a once-vital part of the Boston rock 'n' roll scene," "fabled," and "Boston's answer to New York's CBGB." Reference for the edit of 007/Dub7 from the same newspaper, Jim Sullivan, The Boston Globe, 28 June 1984, pp 65, "Rumble final tonight: Providence's Schemers vs. Boston's Dub7." Related venues[edit]

The Rat is surely the mother of Boston rock venues, but I don't think it can be called the "granddaddy." That title surely goes to The Boston Tea Party (concert venue). I'm not making any edits yet. Just putting this up for discussion.

While we're at it, maybe smart to develop the Kenmore Square article. It's significant that Storyville (nightclub), the famed jazz venue, went rock during The Rat's most vibrant periods in the early 80s. It could be helpful to researchers if we flesh out the Kenmore rock scene. I could move this discussion to the Kenmore Square article.

This page is an embarrassment[edit]

I'm going to follow Wikipedia protocol and post on the talk page before I make any major changes, but this article is in terrible need of an overhaul. I may create a separate page for the bands and leave only the truly notable in the main article. (Please note that I'm deliberately not posting on the Rat Facebook page because it's impossible to get consensus. If people care about the Wikipedia article, they'll offer their opinions here. Notable acts[edit]

Hi Rose (talk) Red links means that they don't have an entry and therefore they don't impact notability. The list is inappropriate for Wikipedia and needs to be blown up. The Rat article should look like the article on CBGB or The Roxy or The Avalon any number of other articles on clubs/performance spaces.

That said, one of the main principles of Wikipedia is that no one owns any articles and everything is done by consensus. I stopped editing the page after the 3000 band was added to the list. If you're interested in doing it, you should! Then we can possibly have the page protected. But I'm an extremist - I've cleaned up a dozen articles for similar reasons. Thanks! Julie

I'm not objecting to the list itself, it's just that there's no way of telling whether some of these band names are real or were added as a prank. My suggestion would be to comment out the names of bands that don't have links. If someone's favorite band isn't there, and that upsets them, let them create an article about it. I'll try it and see what happens. Eh, maybe you were right the first time. There's nothing quite like spending time making fixes and having them all undone by some random dickhead who doesn't even look at the talk page.
