Drummers[edit]

Apart from giving Simmonds back his drums and the 'd' in his name, don't reckon he did "That's Too Bad". I know one ubiquitous biography of Numan on the web (found at VH1, for instance) implies Simmonds but Steve Malins' sleeve notes for Tubeway Army and The Plan (on the Beggars site) say Lidyard and so does my old copy of the 1979 reissue of the single ('Rael', i.e. Lidyard, to be exact) - though just to complicate matters it's Simmonds' picture on the rear cover, according to Malins. I realise it's over a year since this point was raised - but I only noticed it now - I just thought I'd add that it's as plain as day to the EARS if one LISTENS to the "That's too bad" single that Lidyard is playing... whereas the "Bombers" single clearly has someone with less flair and more stodge playing.--feline1 10:59, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Simmonds[edit]

I had lunch with a guy who claims to be Robert Simmonds, I'm pretty sure he said he was a bass player not a drummer. But, next time I see him I'll check to make sure I didn't miss hear him. Is it possible he did both at some point? Perhaps he considered himself a bass player but is notable for drumming on certain tracks? --Llamnuds 09:46, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pull the other one, mate.--feline1 09:51, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To make sure, I checked with him again yesterday, he definitely did not play drums, he played bass.--Llamnuds 12:56, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, guess what? I had lunch with a guy who claims to be Gary Numan, I'm pretty sure he said Bob was a drummer not a bass player. But, next time I see him I'll check to make sure I didn't mis-hear him. Cheers, Ian Rose 13:19, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Numan's biographies explain how his inseperable best mate Paul Gardiner always played the bass. They never talk about any time when Gardiner left the band for a period. They do relate how the band had a variety of drummers, one of whom was Bob Simmonds, cos Gary's uncle (Jess Lidyard) was a semi-pro musicians, busy with other bands, and not free to gig with Tubeway Army full time. This picture has been consistently painted in every book I've ever read. In that scenario, there is no room for a Bob Simmonds on bass! --feline1 13:46, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes feline1, you could be right, my friend could be delusional, and I'm certainly guillible enough to believe him. I have no proof. Do you have any video of Robert playing drums? Before you ask, no I don't. Hey Ian, how is Gary these days. --213.121.212.121 15:33, 16 June 2006 (UTC) (Llamnuds)[reply]
Well why doesn't Mr Simmonds log on himself and set us all straight. Why doesn't he pop over to Gary' "Nuworld" site, when Numan himself posts personally all the time? They can jog each other's memories...--feline1 16:41, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

EPs[edit]

Should EPs not be listed in the singles section of the discography? I believe when an EP was released they would be eligible of the singles charts and not the albums charts. --JD554 07:49, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair question and I don't know for sure the answer re. the charts (though I suspect you're right). My reasoning for the change was cosmetic as much as anything given EPs are treated similarly to albums in WP, following the same naming standards, etc. It was also neat to collect the 'unreleased/rereleased' EPs with The Plan, given it was all part of the same marketing/reissue campaign. I think there are arguments on both sides, however I realise after looking again at the Gary Numan article that the EPs are with singles in that one (rightly or wrongly) so I wouldn't have a huge issue with them going back with singles here so the articles match. Cheers, Ian Rose 08:24, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
After hunting around I can't find any guidance on where EPs should go. But I'm inclined to go with my feeling that as they are eligible for the singles charts, so belong with them. Also other discographies seem to have EPs listed with singles (if not separate). So I'll move them, but I'll keep the formatting changes you made. --JD554 08:43, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Only a Downstat to this article?[edit]

It's been nearly three years since Only a Downstat went on the not notable list. Nobody has spoken up for it, but it might be worth saving by merging it with this article. AKB10 (talk) 07:38, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would think given the lack of cited content and that the song isn't notable in anyway, a simple redirect would be in order. --JD554 (talk) 07:31, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me. AKB10 (talk) 08:27, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since it was an outtake from Replicas, and has been included on CD reissues of Replicas, wouldn't it be better to redirect it to Replicas (album)? --Zundark (talk) 17:52, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
