Pikachu-like[edit]

The Viscacha looks like a Pikachu, I think this should be mentioned. 78.150.144.231 (talk) 15:13, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More pics needed[edit]

If anyone has more pictures, the gallery here needs them. Blue Rasberry 00:12, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will subdivision you[edit]

This text appears under genera...is there some reason for this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.72.189.168 (talk) 02:41, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Three or four?[edit]

There are five extant species of viscacha:
(...)
* Wolffsohn's viscacha (Lagidium wolffsohni): Little is known about this species, as it is rarer than the other three viscachas.

(emphasis mine) The numbers obviously don't match. I presume it should read 'the other four'. 84.237.161.184 (talk) 16:35, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies if I'm not doing this correctly, I'm new to 'talk' pages.

There are actually only 3 fully recognised species of viscacha (as can be seen by typing 'Lagidium' into the IUCN species search. They are:

   Lagidium ahuacaense (Ecuadorean Viscacha)
   Lagidium viscacia (Southern Mountain Viscacha)
   Lagidium wolffsohni (Wolffsohn's Viscacha)

The 'Northern Viscacha' doesn't exist despite featuring in quite a few articles on the Internet including it's own Wikipedia entry! The latin name Lagidium peruanum used to refer to it is acually an old name for the Southern Mountain Viscacha as can be seen from the IUCN entry for that species.

I'm afraid there's rather a lot of correcting needed to these wikipedia articles in order to make them accurate which at this moment in time is beyond my skill level. Hlansdown (talk) 11:41, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
