General editing guidelines[edit]

Can the anonymous editor working here please take a look at Wikipedia policies and guidelines? There have been over 30 edits to the article today many of which were very minor that could have been grouped in a single edit. Also, you really need to provide an edit summary for your changes. Stadium Photo[edit]

The new photo shows the field more than the stadium's impressive architecture, but it's definitely better than the former truck photo. Maybe someday an aerial photo could be uploaded.65.4.87.148 18:50, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Damning with faint praise[edit]

Many prominent college football teams have played at Williams-Brice Stadium but have not won at the stadium, including Southern California, Georgia Tech, Boise State, Kansas State, South Florida, Iowa State, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, Army, Louisiana Tech, Western Michigan, Central Florida, New Mexico State, Baylor, among others.

The other USC and possibly, possibly, Georgia Tech and K-State I'll give to you as slightly interesting, although I don't recall KSU playing there since the Bill Snyder era and they were horrible before that . The rest of these just look silly. What about Wofford? Have they ever won at Williams-Brice? I'm tempted to compile an analogous list of teams that have never won at Vanderbilt Stadium just to prove a point. Cheers, PhilipR 04:26, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Upper deck sway[edit]

I was a student at Carolina and a reporter/editor on the school newspaper, The Gamecock, during the "Louie, Louie" swaying incident. As near as I can tell from back issues I have archived, the swaying might have occurred earlier, but the "Louie, Louie" connection didn't crop up until 1988 (I was a student at USC from '86-'91 and was present at the game in question). The actual ban on the playing of the song didn't occur until the 1989 football season (this based on an editorial in the paper from Sept. 1989).

Corrections[edit]

Says in the article it's the 18th largest college football stadium. By this article, with the exclusion of the Washington Redskins (the only pro team in the top 20), that would rank them at 20. It appears to be be two factors - 1) the 18th ranking should have been qualified as "largest on-campus college football stadium," since UCLA plays in the Rose Bowl, and 2) it was the ranking prior to the 2006 season and Texas' addition of temporary stands in their north endzone to get to 85k. If you look at the 2006 NCAA Football Records book (published prior to the 2006 season) Williams-Brice is 18th. We won't know until the 2007 Records book comes out, but it's possible the NCAA won't recognize Texas in the book until completion of the permanent seating in their expansion (2008). List of... has correct rankings. I saw that FSU moved ahead of Williams-Brice also (and was wrong in the 2006 NCAA record book as well) which means the accurate ranking (and description) is 19th on-campus; I'll change the ranking here on this page. AUTiger » talk 04:31, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the cited material before making changes. The NCAA Record Book ranks by capacity regardless of the stadiums status as "on-campus" or not. Williams-Brice is off-campus, and we must go by the NCAA Record Book until the new rankings come out. 65.4.127.187 22:49, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1998 photo[edit]

Stadium nickname[edit]

Williams-Brice stadium is not nicknamed "The Cockpit". You will find it in no official information from the University or the Gameclock Club. If it were nicknamed "The Cockpit" the University would have included it in all of the stadium graphics they just spent millions of dollars on prior to the 2009 season. The stadium is Williams-Brice Stadium and it does not have a nickname.

Melton Field[edit]
