Protection[edit]

Please discuss and give logical explanations as to why you think a certain coach should or should not be included. At the same time, I am hoping that folks can come up with a set of logical criteria for inclusion to be usable later on as well, not just in this specific case. Please discuss, rather than edit war. --Nlu (talk) 17:25, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It makes sense to leave Osborne on as head coach between Bill Callahan and Bo Pelini. See this http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3133259 article from ESPN, stating that the legend named himself Interim Head Coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gohuskersosborne (talkcontribs) 17:51, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It makes no sense. Osborne named himself interim head coach to legally contact Nebraska recruits. Since he did not coach a game (in 2007), he will never appear in official Nebraska records as head coach. ––Bender235 19:26, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't make a difference to Nebraskans. It represented a significant time of healing and the restoring of order around here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gohuskersosborne (talkcontribs)
A significant time? He named himself interim head coach on November 29, and hired Pelini on December 2. That's four days in total as Nebraska interim head coach. You consider this a significant time? You've gotta be kidding. ––Bender235 00:35, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Now who's making personal attacks? Against a state! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gohuskersosborne (talkcontribs)
That's all you can respond? ––Bender235 13:10, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What is the purpose of this page being protected? Every person who served as head coach should be included. Nothing more, nothing less. What's the controversy.--Rtphokie 02:07, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Precisely my point, good sir! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gohuskersosborne (talkcontribs)
The controversy is that Tom Osborne has been interim head coach for 4 days in total, and did not coach a game, therefore he will never appear in record books as Nebraska head coach in 2007, like Billy Donovan does not appear as Orlando Magic head coach in 2007/08. ––Bender235 13:10, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You really don't realize how important Nebraska football is. Have a read through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebraska_Cornhuskers_football and just think about what you've been doing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gohuskersosborne (talkcontribs)
I do realize how obsessed you are with this nonesense. Let's wait for Nebraska's 2008 media guide, whether Osborne will be listed in the all-time coaching record or not. If he appears there, we can still add him here. ––Bender235 16:28, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You know, you're starting to get rude with this, calling it nonsense, etc. Try and be a little nicer and more civilized. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gohuskersosborne (talkcontribs)
Right, so it wasn't you who added this to my talk page? ––Bender235 19:29, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It was. But now I'm being nice and civilized. You're insulting a state. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gohuskersosborne (talkcontribs)

"You're insulting a state" is hardly a logical argument. Meanwhile, please sign your comments. (Four tildes (~).) --Nlu (talk) 01:35, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

After looking over your last several edits -- including one in which you claimed that you were declaring an edit war -- you are going to be indefinitely blocked, as it is clear that you either do not understand how Wikipedia's collaborative principles work or are deliberately choosing to ignore them. Anybody with a reasonable argument is still welcome to argue both sides. --Nlu (talk) 01:39, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

please edit this page[edit]

The space at the top of this template needs to be removed. It is causing this template to look different than others on college coaches pages where multiple schools are included.

To Osborne or not to Osborne[edit]

I'd suggest trying to come to a consensus with the folks at WikiProject College football to decide if interim coaches should be included. Until then, we'll leave the template protection in place. Caknuck (talk) 00:54, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gohuskersosborne (talkcontribs)
Building consensus is how we do things here. If you refuse to work within the system to reach a decision and you continue to be disruptive in this matter, you will be blocked from editing. It's that simple. Caknuck (talk) 01:27, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For the sake of this discussion, I'm firing off an email to Nebraska's athletic department to see what, if any, opinion they have on this entire matter. Also, a direct link to the current interim coach discussion going on over at WP:CFB is here. – Swid (talk · edits) 01:59, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nebraska Athletic Department response[edit]

PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL. IT IS SYSTEM GENERATED AND WILL NOT BE READ.
PLEASE USE THE FEEDBACK LINK OR CUSTOMER SUPPORT TO RESPOND.

In response to your request:

I would like to know the position the Athletic Department has on the inclusion of interim head football coaches in official
coaching records. Judging by this page (http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=8&SPID=22&DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=4311),
I presume that interim head coaches are only mentioned if they coached in a game.

I realize this is a very minor matter, but as this page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:HuskersCoach) shows,
there are some heated emotions and strong opinions about where Tom Osborne's four days as interim head coach should be
officially recognized.

The following response is provided:

You are only included as an interim head coach in our records during an active season and if you coached a game.
I doubt we will have any debate on that matter.

Go Big Red!

Thank you for your request.
Ask the Athletic Dept.

That wraps things up quite nicely. Also, the edit protection can probably be lifted now. – Swid (talk · edits) 23:34, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Any objections to unprotecting the template? --Nlu (talk) 03:27, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hearing no objections, the protection will be lifted. Please do not edit war. --Nlu (talk) 14:10, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Autoincluding category misleading[edit]

This template appears on pages like 1972 Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, and since it includes the category Category:Nebraska Cornhuskers football coaches the category misleadingly appears on the page. Please can either the template be removed from pages like XXXX Nebraska Nornhuskers football team, or the category be removed from the template? I don't know what people think best.Dsp13 (talk) 11:17, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
