Project tagging[edit]

In your opinion, should Beriah Magoffin be tagged for WP:MILHIST? I was about to request a peer review from that project for the Magoffin article and noticed it had not been tagged. If it should be, would you please do so, as I'm not really familiar with the project banner's parameters. If it shouldn't be, just let me know, and I'll list it for peer review elsewhere. Thanks. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 19:33, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Magoffin is another of those articles that would be in a Wikiproject ACW but doesn't belong in MILHIST. I'd love a separate WP, but between the stubborness of the coords to separate the subject out, plus the inability to weed out those that would derail the good work of the project if there was a separate ACW WP, I see nothing that can be done.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 08:20, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Are you aware how many railroads there have been in Kentucky? I don't have an exact number, but you can get a general idea from List of Missouri railroads, which I recently added all the railroads I could find to. --NE2 05:56, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure there are more, especially in the 19th century.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 05:57, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My point is that there are way too many for a template... --NE2 06:12, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at List of Kentucky railroads, if just those based in Kentucky, and not just passing thru, it isn't that bad. Might split up the template to just stations and just somethingorother.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 06:15, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There were definitely many more than that. When I get done with Illinois, I'll do Kentucky next, and we'll see how many. --NE2 06:18, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Than we'll just wait to see what it appears like before we make a final decision on the template. Take care.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 06:19, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial[edit]

Hi Bedford. You nominated Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial at WP:GAN a while ago, and I reviewed it on the 2nd. It had some problems with the content that have not been addressed. Mainly, it focuses too much on Lincoln in Indiana and not enough on the Memorial itself. Please come back and work on the article, or I will fail the GA nom. Thanks, Reywas92Talk 16:00, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup participates in the Wikipedia:The Great Wikipedia Dramaout[edit]

Hello all, iMatthew here. I just wanted to let you know about "The Great Wikipedia Dramaout" which starts this Saturday. The goal of the Dramaout is to spend five days working on improving articles and abstaining from any of Wikipedia's drama. I don't think that any of you will have a problem focusing on articles for five days, because of course, any work you get done during the Dramaout will count towards your score in the WikiCup. Details are on the page; hope to see you all signing up! :) iMatthew talk at 00:27, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The "Nobama" userbox[edit]

Hey there. We haven't spoken before, but I noticed that you use the anti-Barack Obama userbox I made some time ago, the one that says "This user thinks Barack Obama is unsuited to the presidency on a political and personal level" or whatever.

I'm planning to CSD the thing. It's not that I like the guy, but I don't really want to get involved in political articles on wikipedia, and I'm trying to scrub my userspace of politically oriented stuff. Since you and some other Conservative wikipedians are using it though, I thought I'd ask if you'd like to userfy it so it doesn't get lost.

I'll check back here, though you can hit my talk page with a talkback if you'd like. McJEFF (talk) 07:15, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:1702 ARB exp.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:1702 ARB exp.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 07:38, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Broken Coord[edit]

Hi. In order to clean up Category:Coord template needing repair, would you mind if I changed an instance of {{coord}} in User:Bedford/JeffersonNRHP? It needs to be rolled over to one more minute and zero seconds, from "{{38|14|60|N..." to "{{coord|38|15|0|N...".

You could just have the whole page deleted, as it is no longer needed.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 19:16, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm wondering if you'd care to collaborate on something[edit]

I've been giving serious thought to Portal:Confederate States of America. Not a Military History portal, but more of a society and culture portal, allowing non-native English wiki readers some insight into American culture. There are stacks of very good material, you should know, you've written some of it. There are several obvious FAs, and we could draw on an enormous body of works across the content spectrum. Mint julep, Dixie, Confederate government of Kentucky, Mississippi River, William Faulkner, so many really good pages, not to mention all the relevant biographies and military incidents. It would be a way of using knowledge of partisanship for encyclopedic purposes.

I'm aware we haven't always agreed, but I can't think of anyone (maybe User:Grayghost01) as interested and qualified to feature this sort of material. If you are busy elsewhere, please let it sink in. If you're not interested, no hard feelings. I know you're knowledgeable about FPs, and know you've personally written a bunch of stuff which would be immediately usable. We might even learn something ourselves.

In any event, my best to you and yours. BusterD (talk) 23:29, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This looks like a pretty intense personal attack and assumption of bad faith. Are you sure you want to add it?

If you are sure, I won't remove it if you re-add it back, I'm a big believer that Wikipedia works best when people get to say what they want to say. But you might pause for a moment and rethink if it's actually a wise step. --Alecmconroy (talk) 22:24, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have learned that WP:AGF is not universally applied, and is just used a shield by some. As for the accusation, I have had to keep a list of actions people have done against me. Last year, KC got on me for letting people know that an admin (not KC) went beyond her authority and deleted various userboxes. Once KC went off on me and falsely accuse me of edit-warring, when in fact I urposely avoided doing so, shows that I would be a fool to AGF, especially since KC did not do the same for me.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 22:28, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation![edit]

To ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.

It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:

  • Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
  • Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
  • Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
  • Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.

Have you considered another RFA run?[edit]

I'd be willing to nominate you. You probably wouldn't succeed, but it'd be another chance to demonstrate the illegitimate and invalid action taken against you. Kurt Weber (Go Colts!) 21:24, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but why bother? Anyone who is intelligent knows I didn't deserve my gangrape, but the power of cliques is astounding, with each clique with a little power protects other empowered cliques to preserve their own. Look how the MilHist clique, who loved me in late 2007-08, were all too willing to be Judases toward me when another clique decided to gangrape me out of my sysop? Besides, now that I have been gangraped, I need not bother to do anything for the good of Wikipedia? If I see vandalism or pageblanking, I am no longer automatically changing it back?--King Bedford I Seek his grace 23:54, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You weren't gang raped, you were bitchslapped. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 02:29, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The same way if I was slapped by a pirate I'd be pirateslapped, and if slapped by a penguin I'd be penguinslapped.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 04:42, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The 2010 WikiCup begins tomorrow![edit]

Welcome to the biggest WikiCup Wikipedia has yet seen! Round one will take place over two months, and finish on February 26. There is only one pool, and the top 64 will progress. The competition will be tough, as more than half of the current competitors will not make it to round 2. Details about scoring have been finalized and are explained at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Please make sure you're familiar with the scoring rules, because any submissions made that violate these rules will be removed. Like always, the judges can be reached through the WikiCup talk pages, on their talk page, or over IRC with any issues concerning anything tied to the Cup. We will keep in contact with you via weekly newsletters; if you do not want to receive them, please remove yourself from the list here. Conversely, if a non-WikiCup participant wishes to receive the newsletters, they may add themselves to that list. Well, enough talk- get writing! Your submission's page is located here. Details on how to submit your content is located here, so be sure to check that out! Once content has been recognized, it can be added to your submissions page, from which our bot will update the main score table. Remember that only articles worked on and nominated during the competition are eligible for points. Have fun, and good luck!
