Welcome to Esperanza![edit]

Welcome, Elkman, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee, Titoxd, JoanneB, and Freakofnurture.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact me by my talk page, Celestianpower by email or talk page, or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users on our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, please see the IRC Tutorial, which was written by one of our members. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to be!

Thanks! G.He 21:43, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Batman (animated)[edit]

Where is it??--T-man, the wise 22:48, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Then, it's a good thing I've created this article. There is no Bio of Animated Batman, the article you're talking about is about the series, not the character.--T-man, the wise 23:07, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, there is no Biographical info of batman/Bruce Wayne animated --T-man, the wise 01:16, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking Editor Review Commentary (If You Like)[edit]

Hi. In conjunction with my RfA (that you voted on), I have created an editor review, to give people a chance to comment as to ways in which I can branch out or alter my contributions to Wikipedia. An RfA seems to solely focus on how one's temperment and contributions relate to how they might handle administrative powers (and the consensus on that seems to be that I'm not quite ready); the editor review opens things up a little more to a larger focus, and I'd love to hear community feedback in the sense of that larger focus, too. If you feel you've already expressed yourself sufficiently when casting your vote, then by all means don't worry about it, but if any thoughts come to mind or if you'd like to expound upon any suggestions or commentary, it would be appreciated. In any case, I appreciated you taking the time to express your opinion on my RfA, and I thank you for that. — WCityMike (talk • contribs) 19:53, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here you go with some elkspeak..[1]...don't worry about Redwoods...I'll play with it some more yet and send it off to peer review...there just isn't as much to talk about there as there was for Glacier.--MONGO 00:26, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Biking article spam[edit]

You're welcome, and thanks for the thanks-- I mostly get chewed out for this kind of work! Feel free to join the spam fighter brigade. In case you find it useful, I'm pasting in some boilerplate I've worked out for answering spammers who think their links are wonderful:

Please read WP:EL. Basically, Wikipedia is not a link farm. Links should only be added if they have valuable information that does not belong in the article itself and if they are not trying to sell something. If the information in the link does belong it the article, it should be re-written (to avoid copyright issues) and added to the article. In general, articles should have very few links, because very few links fit these criteria. The idea is that we want our articles to be the best possible source of information on a topic, not a short article followed by a long list of links to other articles-- one might as well just google the subject and read the first dozen sites if we are going to assemble long external link lists.

Cheers! -- Mwanner | Talk 18:41, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Drastic refactoring[edit]

You say "a few users seem to be suggesting that signatures should be drastically refactored every time they occur"

Who says this? --Tony Sidaway 12:12, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No time spent on good articles is completely wasted[edit]

I for one would like to have more articles on "historic places or bridges in Minnesota". If more people followed your example in writing articles like that and fewer indulged in mad mud-slinging, we could have a really good encyclopædia. Go for it, and don't let the bar-stewards grind you down… HTH HAND —Phil | Talk 22:16, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see you're a bit down... I also see you are in the bridges project. People do care about bridges. I do, anyway. I, personally, (and apologies for unsolicited advice!) often find that when I'm stressed out about WP drama, that editing articles is a good way to relieve some of that stress. Your pictures are great, if you have some you haven't added, if there are bridges you want to write about but haven't... please do. Hope that helps, Happy editing... hang in there... ++Lar: t/c 22:16, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures[edit]

Thanks and a question[edit]

Thanks for the friendly welcome - much appreciated! If I may, I'll ask a question. I have been trying to help out with the WP:DPL - and come across an issue. If an article contains a link on a word that goes to a disambiguation page but is really looking for a dictionary definition - see the Reservoir link in Axial_piston_pump for an example - what should you do with it? Remove it entirely? Replace it with a Wiktionary link? Add a whole new Wikipedia page for the definition? Hints or suggestions welcome!

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Mnlicenseplate.gif, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. Please go to its page to provide the necessary information on the source or licensing of this image (if you have any), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.
The public disclosure policy you cited is about public records. Copyrighted images of the state do not fall into this policy. There needs to be a paragraph that reads like this one from the Illinois state site:

Stop reinserting images which have been removed because of legal and fair use concerns. Your actions can be seen as vandalism. If you do one more such edit you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. You may not get another warning before being blocked.

Vandalism and Incivility Warning[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits, such as those you made to User:PatriotFirst, are considered vandalism. If you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the hard work of others. Thanks.

Please stop[edit]

What you said about certain users on the Wikipedia:Administrators noticeboard is libellous and defamatory. Particularly this: [and defamatory comments]

Do not defame and libel other editors. Your behavior is also considered worse than Wiki-stalking, particularly because it goes beyond the usual policing and spying of editors on Wikipedia. It concerns editors privacy rights off of Wikipedia. This is unfair to Wikipedia, itself, and unfair to the editors involved. Thank you. Additionally, you took the liberty of removing code from my page, without my permission. This also goes against Wiki user page policy. Next time you take the liberty to alter a user's page, I suggest you, politely, ask the user in question first.

Please act civilly with me. Because of your incivility, you are not welcome on my pages again, unless I expressly invite you, which is ulikely under the circumstances. PatriotFirst 23:31, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikibreak[edit]

Help[edit]

Thank you very much for recognizing my work on Minnesota politics. I have been trying to import the pictures from that government website you mentioned for a very long time; however, I am quite new to editing, I've only been a member for about 3 months, and pretty much the only thing I can't understand is how to import pictures. Call me stupid, but I need help. Thank you--Rhelmerichs.

Minnesota[edit]

I do try to pop into Minnesota articles, but haven't contributed much about the southern part of the state because I'm not that familiar with areas much beyond Fairmont. Even so, I think I can add a few bits here and there, and will contribute what I can. Jay Maynard 21:49, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A short Esperanzial update[edit]

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

On a related note, I noticed that you've tried to use the WP:NCR userbox. The problem is that you seem to have copy-pasted the code, which has lead to some <includeonly> tags around the category. If you want to be added to the category, you can remove them yourself, or ask me and I'll do it for you. (I don't edit other user's userpages except with permission or to revert vandalism). --ais523 14:24, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

As you were one of the last notable contributers to this page, you seem most reasonable to ask this queston to. Would it be appropiate to seperate Cleveland from Ohio as Chicago is from Illinois? Cleveland has nearly half of Ohio's museums and List of museums in Cleveland already has its own category page. So, could you please tell me on my talk-Lorty 15:50, 1 July 2006 (UTC)  :)[reply]

There is currently NO!! Bible quotations to support the Catholic and Orthodox view!! WHY will you not allow it?[edit]

Why is there is no more "Bible quoting" allowed in the Catholic Orthodox view on Sin, at least 10 times at least 10 in the later protestant "view" what is the meaning of this, - email me at revolution@mailbox.co.za and tell me what the problem is.! There is currently NO!! Bible quotations to support the Catholic and Orthodox view!! WHY will you not allow it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.165.212.201 (talkcontribs) 14:01, 7 July 2006

  • I'm not responsible for deciding what's allowable on Wikipedia or not. If you feel there's some reason to have those quotations on the page, go ahead and enter them. It's a Wiki, after all -- you can edit anything. Editing the page in question, or the talk page of the article, is probably more productive than asking me to do it. --Elkman - (Elkspeak) 20:06, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip about the Head of the household article by User:RyanVG (and sorry about not responding right away; I got distracted). I decided not to nominate Head of the household right now, partly because I'm lazy ;) and partly because I think that, even in its poor current state, it has marginally more potential for improvement than the articles on patriarchal and matriarchal marriage. (It could be expanded into an article with information about different governmental tax collection services' policies on heads of households, religious or societal or economic ideas about heads of households, etc.) I might even attempt some improvement myself, if I suddenly become motivated to do so, but no guarantees. However, the article is pretty bad, and if you or someone else were to nominate it for deletion, I would support the nomination given the current state of the article. —Caesura(t) 19:39, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did I miss something?[edit]

I haven't really been paying attention very closely to the naming convention stuff for highways, but did it get decided that all of the state highways should be moved to State Highway XX (State)? I am asking this because I have seen SPUI going around and changing links and marking articles with a tag which indicates that they need to have their name changed to "meet Wikipedia's quality standards". If you have heard anything, could you let me know? --Station Attendant 22:57, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing me up to speed, you wouldn't think that articles about highways would start such a fuss. --Station Attendant 02:52, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
